Andy looked over at Allison from across the library. It had been the 'Breakfast Club's' tradition to attend Saturday detention at least once a month. It wasn't like Vernon cared.
He saw her with a black Sharpie in her hand, writing on the inside of her left arm.
"Psst, Allison," he whispered, drawing the attention of the other three, "what are you writing?"
She merely held up her wrist, where the word LOVE was scrawled.
"Before I met you all, I cut at least once a week," she murmured, not looking up as she idly traced the nearly invisible lines that were raised just slightly above her skin.
The group stared, even Bender looked surprised.
"I figured this is a good alternative."
"What made you stop?" Claire wondered quietly.
She looked at each of them in turn, her eyes settling on Andy.
"Who knows. It didn't hurt, but it didn't numb me anymore either. I have friends now. I've found-"
"Love," Andy finished.
She smiled and nodded, and started criss-crossing vines up and down her pale skin.
And the room fell quiet once more.
