A/N: This is loosely based on a scene in a JAG episode (I forget which one) but ever since seeing that phone conversation about the dress I have been dying to write a Taggart one-shot for it as (typically) that's right where my brain took me when I saw it :)
The basic idea is that a journalist has gotten a hold of some information on a case and published something so Jackie's going to figure out how much they know and (possibly) who the leak is. Just a little short, hopefully sweet nothing :)
Hope you enjoy!!
Little Red Dress
"What do you mean you're busy tonight?"
On the other end of the phone Jackie stifled a laugh at Michael's almost petulant tone as she hunted for her other black heel. "I told you, I was going to find out how much that journalist knows," she reminded him patiently as she located the missing shoe.
"Which means you're in a dress," came the reply, now sounding very put out.
Jackie narrowed her eyes as she sat down on the edge of her bed to put her shoe on. "You don't know me as well as you think you do – I don't need a dress to get the truth," she told him, smoothing an invisible wrinkle on the dress she was wearing as she stood up.
"Of course you don't," he agreed, "is it a red dress?" he asked after a moment. Jackie rolled her eyes.
"You are impossible," she informed him as she checked her reflection. "Fine," she conceded with an exaggerated sigh after a short pause, "yes I am in a dress and yes it's red, happy?"
He laughed at her exasperated tone, "I knew it."
She stuck her tongue out even though she knew he couldn't see her, before feigning innocence as she replied: "And here was I thinking that if you were a good boy I'd drop in to see you for dessert."
Her grin widened at the lengthy pause that followed her comment.
"What if I promise not to laugh at you ever again?"
Jackie laughed, "That's a pie crust promise* if ever I heard one, but I suppose I can accept your terms. I'll see you later," she added, picking up her purse.
"Jackie...you are just going to talk to him, right?"
Jackie almost laughed at his uncertain tone, but thought the better of it.
"Of course not," she said firmly. "Do not underestimate the power of a little red dress," she warned him playfully, "I won't need to do anything else, even if I wanted to – which I don't," she assured him.
"Promise?"
This time she did laugh, "I'll see you later Michael," she said firmly and hung up.
...
Later that evening Michael was flipping through channels on the TV, trying not to think about Jackie flirting with another man, when the doorbell rang.
He was off the couch like a shot; throwing open the door he was greeted by a vision in red.
"Well, are you going to let me in?" the vision asked in an amused tone, breaking him from his stunned silence.
"Of course," he said, stepping aside to allow Jackie to enter, "how was dinner?" he asked, still in a bit of a daze.
"It was all right," she said with a shrug, "you up for dessert?" she asked, holding up a small carton of ice cream and two spoons.
"I most certainly am," he informed her, his eyes trailing down to the sway of her hips as she led the way to the living room.
"Eyes off the prize, mister," she admonished him with a grin as she sank onto the couch, kicking of her shoes as she did so.
Michael grinned back as he settled down beside her, privately conceding there was a lot to be said for the power of a little red dress.

*Just in case you've never heard the term before - "Pie crust promise": easily made, easily broken.
A/N: I know it's usually "Little Black Dress" but in the JAG episode it was red, I saw no reason to change it. Plus I reckon Jackie would look amazing in a red dress (I'm thinking crimson myself, or Meg's dress if you've seen the JAG episode).
