A/N: So I love the Rose Scorpius pairing. This is my second story about them. This story is based on one of my favorite songs by Shinedown called "Second Chance". The lyrics at the beginning come from the chorus of the song.
Tell my mother, tell my father,
I've done the best I can,
To make them realize,
This is my life,
I hope they understand,
I'm not angry,
I'm just saying,
Sometimes goodbye is a second chance.
It all started in their sixth year when they started going out. It was a secret relationship, both of them knew their parents would never approve. A Weasley and a Malfoy together was an inconceivable idea to everyone but them. They loved each other and nothing anybody else said could stop it, at least that's what they said at first.
When they finally became public it was the biggest news around Hogwarts. It was all anyone talked about for an entire month. Of course when the news reached their homes it was much worse. Both of their parents were astonished. But Rose and Scorpius didn't care what their parents thought, they were in love and that's all that mattered to them.
Then the strain from fighting with their parents started to break apart their relationship. They began fighting constantly, most of them ending with one of them storming off and then the other one going to find them and apologize. Then came the worst fight of all, just before they were to leave for the summer before their final year at Hogwarts.
"Rose, why do you always have to beat me in everything?" Scorpius shouted at her after their potions lesson in which she had beat him out in a competition to brew the best potion. It was a very unimportant, little thing but as was said before they were fighting about everything. "You can never let me be better at anything, can you?"
"I can't help it if I'm better at most things than you." Rose yelled right back.
"You're just like your bloody know-it-all mother. You have to better than everyone else at everything and rub it in our faces"
"Oh so now you want to get our parents into it. At least my father isn't an ex-Death-Eater!" she countered.
"What does that have to do with what we were talking about?" Scorpius said.
"It doesn't, but we've never discussed it and it definitely is an issue in our relationship!" Rose yelled.
"You know what? I refuse to even talk to you right now!" Scorpius roared and stalked off.
As soon as he was out of sight Rose broke down and cried right in the middle of the dungeons corridor they had been fighting in. Before she was even done crying a pair of warm familiar arms was there to comfort her. She looked into Scorpius' eyes and said in a sad voice "We're letting the feud between our parents break us apart, Scorp. This isn't working. I can't go on like this anymore."
"I agree that this isn't working, Rose, but I love you and I don't want to lose anything we might have together." Scorpius said quietly.
"If we go on like this there will be nothing between us left. I think it best we break up for a while. Goodbye, Scorpius."
"Goodbye, Rose"
And with those bittersweet goodbyes they both left and didn't speak nor see each other until the term started next year. Both had reconciled with their parents over the summer and were feeling very optimistic about their final year at Hogwarts.
When they saw each other on the platform they gave each other small smiles, a promise that they would talk later and maybe, just maybe they could restart a relationship. Their goodbyes were exactly the second chance they needed.
