Author's note: Another oldie. Not much to say, it's very short. -shrug- Hope you enjoy it.
I, of course, do not own Harry Potter, or the characters portrayed here. I just like messing with them. :P
"You don't need to be alone, you know."
Harry Potter looked up from when he was sitting on the grass. He recognized Draco Malfoy in front of him through the wet darkness of the rainy night.
"What do you want, Malfoy?"
"To comfort you. I saw you out in the rain on your own, and so I came. Because you don't have to be alone."
Harry looked up from his knees. Draco was gazing at him. Not glaring, not snickering, gazing. It made Harry's breath catch in his throat.
"Oh?" He choked out. "And why is that?"
"Because I'm here. And I'll be here for you. So you don't have to go it by yourself."
Harry was utterly confused. Why the sudden emotion? From Draco, of all people?
"I don't get it. Why are you out here?"
"Because it's raining. And when it rains, no one can see you cry. I'm assuming that's why you're out here, also."
Harry was shocked.
"I understand more about you than you know. I have your life, just on a different level. You are forced to be this... this savior, and do you want it? I assume not. I see the pain in your eyes. I see it tarring you apart. The responsibility you have weighs down on you. And I understand. I have to live up to a Malfoy's way of life, no other. So, I realized I have to be there to comfort you. For we are two of a kind. We just didn't know it."
Harry was speechless. There was suddenly a flood of emotions he couldn't explain. Tears running down his cheeks, he turned away.
"I... I didn't realize..." He felt Draco's arms around him as he heard him whisper words of comfort.
Dispite his better judgement, Harry leaned back into Draco's arms.
They sat there with each other in the pouring rain for a time, their tears mixing with the water.
Harry finally turned, facing Draco.
"You really just came to comfort me?" Draco nodded solemnly.
"Yes. We're all we've really got. We know each other's pain."
Harry had to agree. He reached up to Draco's porcelain cheeks. He was mildly surprised by the warmness of them.
"I'll be there for you. I always will"
This was so un-expected and new, but he knew that Draco wasn't lying.
"I know, Draco. I know."
