Would you mind if I hurt you
Understand that I need to
Wish that I had other choices
Than to harm the one I love

What have you done now ;; Within Temptation

"I could have saved you."

He whispered. She looked around her. It had been a stupid move, to go running into the alley, away from where everyone was fighting. There way no way out.

Hermione turned to face him. She took in the details of his face, willing herself to remember.

"Draco…"

"I could have saved you." He whispered once more. He tightened his grip on his wand. He told himself. He told himself he had to do it.

"Will you do it?" She asked softly. She slowly reached her hand out to him. Draco took a step back, wand still directed towards her.

"You chose him." He said quietly. She felt the dangerous tone it exuded. It made her shiver. She lowered her hand and stared at the ground. She did not want to cry, it made her feel weak. She felt that if she spoke one more word, it would trigger the tears. She did not want to cry. She did not want to.

"You're marrying the filthy bloodtraitor." Draco continued, now no more a whisper. He felt the anger and the bitterness boiling inside him. He looked at the girl in front of him. He would not cry. He would not.

He felt his resolve wavering as the seconds ticked by. She did not say any more. He tightened his grip on his wand once more, determined.

"This is my side. I have to do this." He pleaded, as if trying to reason out with her. All he needed was a spell. Just one spell, and it would all be over.

A small smile formed on her face and with courage, she looked up at him. There were no tears, only sadness. She would not cry. She would not. She reached out for him and held his hand.

All emotions bursting within him, a flash of green light filled the alley. In a second, it was done.

"I could have saved you…" He would not cry.

"I'll be fighting later. Please be safe…

He stared at the piece of parchment he found on his bedside table. Lost for words, he stared at it. He told himself he would not cry. He would not. But he did.

And I couldn't do it. I called off the wedding."

He did.
