This is my attempt at a new story line. I have changed a few things so read this first to understand the changes.
1. This is set in New Moon after the Cullen's left and Bella discovered the tribe's secret. She has begun to be her old self.
2. Aro did kill his sister in this one as the book says.
3. Marcus is not in his late 40's. I always hated that change, in the books he was 19 when changed. In this story he is actually in his mid twenties, around 24.
4. Caius is still his usual grumpy werewolf hating self.
5. Victoria is still crazy and hunting Bella.
Other than that there are only a few personality changes to the characters.
I still don't know whether I will continue this story past this chapter. I just actually dreamt this and I thought 'why not write it?' so I did. Let me know if what you all think of this story. If it sucks let me know too (but be nice) I don't want to continue a suckie story. Well without wasting any more time, Enjoy.
Disclaimer: Stephanie Meyer owns all of the characters in this story. I own nothing, I just changed the story.
As he gazed upon the setting sun on his balcony Aro could not help but think of his brother. He wondered where he was or how he was. Caius and he had known of his growing desire to leave. Neither of them wanted him to go but they had no choice. Their brother could make his own decisions and was more than capable of protecting himself. The question was if he would. When they finally agreed to not go with him they bartered that two guard members go with him instead.
Marcus was not pleased with this. He had wanted to go alone. If he couldn't have gone with Didyme then it was only fitting to go alone. Alas he wouldn't be given a choice. Marcus decided on Felix and Alec. When they finally left Marcus made sure they wouldn't report back to his brothers as to how they were doing unless he wished them to. This of course left the rest of the family rather uneasy. They mostly believed Marcus was planning on finally ending it all.
Four months had gone by of nothing but random traveling. They mostly avoided other covens for the sake of anonymity and privacy but it was also much more peaceful that way. Felix didn't mind. He enjoyed traveling the world. Alec was mostly home sick and missed his sister dearly.
They had toured all of Europe rather quickly since they were already familiar with the land. Asia was a bit better. They did witness an interesting battle between two covens. It was a shame two gifted vampires were executed but such is their way. Oceania and Africa were better. They didn't find many interesting events, but such is the burden of someone with a rather long lifespan. They had higher hopes the Americas would prove better.
They traveled all of South America first. They mostly stuck to densely populated areas and the many rainforests. It was easier to travel with discretion that way. Felix had found it difficult to let go of some rather appetizing prey he had found. Marcus didn't want him to diminish the numbers of an already dying tribe. They had survived in the deepest parts of the Amazon for centuries. An accomplished feet in this environment destroying era.
Alec simply went on with the journey. He did however acquire two dolls that were meant to represent a brother and sister. He always tries to bring something to Jane when he goes away. These dolls reminded him of similar pair she used to have before a spoiled child had broken them about 1200 years ago. Needless to say Jane got even.
Marcus grew weary of the sights. He mostly wondered how this trip would have been with Didyme instead. Especially since they would have made the trip many centuries before. They finally moved on to the Americas. They avoided the south since it was still a tumultuous area. They instead headed north and steered towards favorable climates.

Felix was scouring the forest for his lunch. It hadn't been long but he wanted a break. He was bored. At least when he was home he had tasks to do. All they were doing was wandering around and avoiding nomads and covens. But it was not his place to protest.
He liked the weather in Washington. It felt rather good to walk in the day time. Especially given since his physique made girls flock to him. He learned to have a few dozen pairs of dark brown contact lenses with him to hide his red eyes. The girls, and sometimes guys, wouldn't have felt comfortable otherwise. They made getting dinner easier.
This time he wasn't looking for an easy dinner. He rather missed the chase. To hear the heart pumping with adrenaline. The smell of fear and exhaustion clinging to the air. Hikers and campers were fun since they were already physically fit. He wasn't counting on what he found.
The air was pungent and sweet at the same time. He could smell strawberries and dog. It was an odd combination until he realized what it was. He had known about the shifters from Master Aro when he read the Cullen's from a few decades back. Their smell was similar to the children of the moon but not quiet according to Master Aro. It's more of a rancid wet dog smell than rotting flesh.
Felix retraced his steps and quickly headed back towards Master Marcus and Alec only to find them gone. He followed their scent only to find Master Marcus alone. Felix knew something was wrong right away.
"Master, are you alright?" Felix said as soon as he reached him.
"Yes, why wouldn't I be?" Marcus replied.
"Forgive me Master but I do not see or hear Alec nearby. I also happen to know there are wolves in the area. The shifters." Felix added to avoid confusion.
Marcus looked around to hear Alec but couldn't.
"Alec said he wanted to wander for a bit. Let's find him before they do."
Marcus and Felix sped off following Alecs scent. It was normal for a bit until they noticed the smell of wolves as well. Felix actually began to fear for him. He liked him. But it was Jane's reaction if something happened to him that had him fearing. Alecs trail became evasive and they knew he was being hunted. When they finally heard him they were surprised by what else was present. A human and what seemed like a rather large pack of wolves. They were severely outnumbered.

Alec wandered around the forest. He wanted to go home terribly. He hadn't noticed how far he had gone until another scent caught his attention. He knew instantly he was screwed. He had no choice but to run. It surprised him to find wolves. He hadn't come against shifters but he knew he couldn't use his powers unless he could put a bit of distance between them. His power needed time to reach them. Then again running seemed like a better idea. He tried to shake them off but more kept coming. He had counted 8 but more could be on their way. He didn't want this to be the end. His sister would be alone. Nothing would stop her wrath.
Just when he thought he was out he found a human. She was alone by the sea shore. She reeked of them. She was one of them somehow. He would use her to get out of this. The other wolves must have caught on to his plan because they tried to block off his path. They were fast but he jumped through the trees were they couldn't get him.

Bella was walking along the shore waiting for Jacob to return. He had heard his pack brothers call him. Bella told him to go. She would be here when he came back. She was happy to have Jake back. The pack was happy to see Jake in a better mood and to have Bella back to normal. It had been hard but she was better. She didn't think it would take this long. She was further away from where she started walking but Jacob could find her anywhere.
She began to hear rustling coming from the forest but she couldn't see from where. It was getting louder but she couldn't see it. She heard panting and figured it was Jake trying to scare her, or maybe Quil. It completely caught her off guard when what felt like a wall hit her hard. Whatever it was felt cold and hard like marble. It surrounded her in its arms and rolled around with her on the ground. She felt her body hit the ground but nothing broke. Considering the force it was odd. She just felt numb, like her body fell asleep. It held her close and jumped into a tree with her and it began to climb higher.
Bella finally had a second to breathe and panicked when the only logical conclusion was Victoria or Edward. Either way it was bad. She could hear the wolves howling and growling beneath her but she couldn't open her eyes. She was too afraid to. She didn't want to believe it. She didn't want to die in front of Jacob. Hopefully whoever it was would make it quick.
The unknown Vampire held her up. She couldn't feel her body. She was limp. Her heart was beating too fast for her to even hear now. Whoever held her did nothing. She didn't know why she was still alive. Slowly she lifted her head and opened her eyes. What was in front of her were bright red eyes and what looked like an angelic boy. She knew better. He met her gaze and held it. She didn't know why but there was a strange twinge. Fear was present of course but something else too. She didn't know what it was. Her head was still trying to fully reboot. Her eyes were then slowly drawn to the pendant around his neck. She had seen that before but she couldn't remember where. It was eerily familiar.
"Let her go!" Paul's voice broke her dazed trance.
Bella managed to slowly look down and instantly regret it. She was much higher than she though. She was basically a rag doll held by human drinking vampire backed up into a corner. She realized the severity of her predicament.
Her hand instinctively held onto his jacket. It wouldn't do anything but she couldn't help it. The rest of her body still hadn't woken up. She looked again to see the panic and fear in Jacobs's eyes. She could also see the rage.
Suddenly two more vampires appeared in the trees. Her heart went into overdrive, the world became blurry and distant, and this time she passed out.

(Alec's POV)
When I finally got to the little human girl she passed out. At first I thought I killed her when her body gave out. That would not have helped. But her heart was still beating so she must have just fainted. I wasn't wrong when I speculated she was important to them. When I held her in the tree with me dangling like a rag doll the wolves stopped. They were angrier but at least they weren't attacking. When she began to stir I looked at her. Hopefully I didn't break her too badly. What good is a broken hostage?
When she opened her eyes and gazed into mine the strangest thing happened. I could feel that she was important, not just to the wolves but to me. I would have to ask Master Marcus about this later since right now I have better things to think about. It was also odd that she wasn't terrified, she was scared and curious. That had never happened before. Her eyes just studied me and then my pendant. I swear she recognized it. The only time she felt fear was when she looked down when one of them changed back to human and yelled. She actually held on to me. That's crazy, scared of heights but not of the vampire dangling you from a tree.
Relief finally came when I heard Master Marcus and Felix but fear as well. Better I perish than all of us.
"You wander off alone and end up being chased by shifters and holding a human. Are you really that hungry?" Felix said. At his words the wolves became angry. It seems this girl is much more to them than I thought.
000
Marcus took in the scene before him. He knew they were vastly outnumbered but it would seem Alec had discovered a bargaining chip. The wolves all had bonds leading to her. Some were weaker but three and out of those three one stood out the most. It was a romantic bond but her bonds towards this wolf only looked of friendship. He thought this was due to the fact that her romantic bond was severed and bleeding.
"I said let her go!" Paul said again.
Marcus decided to step in. This would need a diplomatic touch.
"We will as long as you let us go on our way." Marcus said as he stared at the unknown shifter.
Paul looked towards Sam who seemed to be thinking it over. Sam walked into the woods and shifted back. Marcus couldn't see it but was fascinated. No wonder Aro wanted to know of them.
"How do we know you won't harm her?" Sam said trying to figure out his strategy.
"We don't have reason to. We were just passing through and happen upon your pack." Marcus said trying to diffuse the situation.
"Really? Then why did he target her when he had better things to worry about?" Sam asked.
"She is covered in your scents. He thought of her more valuable to him to get away from you." Marcus stated simply. He could smell it as well but his gift helped to assert his hypothesis.
"We do not allow humans come to harm. We protect them from your kind." Sam replied.
"A noble cause as any. But that still doesn't answer my proposal." Marcus replied wanting an answer. He didn't know how many more were around so he wanted to be over with this.
Alec chose that moment to throw Bella in the air slightly to better hold on to her causing growls to come from below. Felix looked at him like he was an idiot.
"I am simply holding onto her better so she doesn't fall." Alec said getting growls from a very angry looking wolf.
"Come down with her and safely put her on the ground and we will allow you to leave." Sam said getting a few protests which he quickly stopped with a stern look.
"Are we to simply take your word on it?" Marcus asked.
"Yes. You don't really have many options." Sam stated. Marcus could respect his answer. He was like Aro in some ways.
"Agreed. But rest assured if we do not return others will come to avenge us." Marcus said to which Sam simply nodded.
Slowly Felix and Marcus headed down first. Felix was in front of Marcus. If they betrayed their word he could at least give him a chance to escape. A warrior always protects his king. Alec took longer since he was carrying an unconscious Bella. The wolves were mostly watching him. Just as he was half way down the tree Bella awoke.
"What. . . What happened?" Bella asked forgetting what had just happened.
"Nothing so far." Alec replied getting a gasp and a surge of panic from Bella.
"Alec." Marcus said.
Jacob wanted to rip the little ones head off right then and there.
When she heard his name Bella finally realized who he was and where the crest was from.
"Alec? Alec Volturi?" Bella asked with fear and amazement.
Alec stopped moving and that caught everyone's attention.
"How do you know my name." It wasn't a question. Alecs gaze turned dark. It did not belong on such an angelic face. That made the wolves uneasy.
"Alec stop scaring her. How do you know him child?" Marcus asked curious as to how a human who associates with wolves and doesn't panic at the sight of vampires could know of the Volturi.
Bella didn't avert her gaze from Alec. She was glued to his eyes. It all came rushing back to her. The talk she had with Edward so long ago.
"You and your twin sister Jane are gifted. Two of the best fighters of the Volturi. Why didn't you use your gift on them? You didn't need me." Bella asked as she remembered their gifts.
Alec was impressed, she wasn't scared just curious. That was something new.
"I didn't have to since I have you." Alec responded with a half lie. He wasn't going to reveal his powers needed time to reach them.
The wolves didn't like that response but they kept quiet. Bella was getting them to talk and information was what they needed.
"True but then again that does raise more questions than it answers." Bella responded knowing it was better to keep him talking. It worked with Laurent.
"You are a curious little human." Alec was starting to like her. It was rare he got to know food.
"Are you going to put me down or are we just going to have a casual talk in a tree?" Bella asked trying to sound more confident than she was.
Alec laughed. It was beautiful.
"Of course. That is if you can stand." He said still not knowing if she had something broken.
Bella began to slowly move her limbs, torso and legs.
When she moved her leg she felt a sharp pain on her thigh.
"Ouch."
That alone made Jacob growl at Alec and take a crouching stance ready to jump. Sam had to stop him.
"Its fine, my leg just hurts a little." Bella said looking at Jacob trying to diffuse the situation.
It surprised the vampires she was trying to defend them slightly. As if she didn't want to start a fight. Alec and she reached the floor and Bella slowly put weight on her leg. She had to lean back on Alec. It hurt more than when Alec held her up. Jacob did not like that she was hurt and leaning on the leech.
Jacob went back into the woods to shift. When he came back his anger was more apparent.
"I'm okay." Bella said as she held up her hand to Jake. She looked into his eyes to reassure him.
"Are you sure?" Marcus asked the curious human girl.
Bella turned to see another pair of red eyes. These seemed different though. They had a milky film to them. There was a strange pull suddenly. It was as if she could trust him. It was odd and not appropriate considering one of them was holding her hostage. She couldn't help herself though, she had to know who he was.
"Who are you?" Bella asked.
"Marcus, Marcus Volturi." Marcus replied curious to know more of this beautiful girl. He had to know her.
Bella's eyes grew wide. Her heart sped up. The wolves were confused. How did she know them?
"Marcus Volturi? As in one of the three kings Marcus Volturi?" Bella said taking one step towards the wolves. A painful step.
Marcus was hurt. It would seem she does know of them and apparently what she was told made her scared of him. This was not acceptable. He didn't want her afraid of him.
Felix was trying to figure out what was going on but he refused to look away from the wolves. No true guard would ever take his eyes off the enemy when defending his king. Besides would just fill him later, if there was a later.
Alec held her in place. He didn't know what was going on but he knew his Master didn't want that reaction. For the first time in centuries he was showing some emotions.
The wolves were just buzzing with the news. Whoever they were Bella had just revealed how powerful they were and starting a war was no longer an option.
"How do you know of us? No human is allowed to have that information?" Marcus asked mistakenly making her heart race more. Before she could panic he held his hand up. "Calm yourself."
"I, I can't tell you. I'm sorry but I gave my word. I won't break it. Not even to save my own life." Bella said ready to die to protect the pack.
That got growls from the pack and a collective "No!" from Sam, Paul and Jacob.
"What makes you think I would demand your life?" Marcus asked curious as to the extent to her knowledge. Aro would really come in handy right about now.
"The law clearly states that any human who knows of the existence of vampires must either be turned or killed. And since I don't plan on turning there's only one other option."
Bella said making the problem clear to the pack. She should have really told them this beforehand. Then again she had barely begun to open up again.
"True but you may be part of the exception since you know of them." Marcus gestured to the pack.
"Both of us require the secrecy of our existence to coexist comfortably among the humans. And since you are clearly willing to die in order to protect them then you would never do something to expose us, since it would expose both sides in the process." Marcus said making it clear neither Alec nor Felix should question his logic.
"Then you won't carry out the law?" Bella asked not understanding why he wouldn't. Jacob just wanted her to shut up. He didn't want her to push it.
"I don't need to as long as you swear to me you will never expose our secret. Otherwise I would have no choice. And since you know of me and Alec then you should know of my brothers' power and how you could never lie to him." Marcus said making sure he was clear of what he was doing on to see if she knew of Aro.
"I swear I will never reveal the existence of vampires, shifters and werewolves to another human being." Bella said adding the werewolves just to be thorough.
"I do know of his power. It is a very advantageous power to have. Aro must love to use it a lot." Bella said looking straight into his eyes. She wasn't backing down. She should shut up but it seems her mouth has a mind of its own.
Marcus smiled. He liked her tenacity.
"He does. Much to the dismay of the rest of us."
Alec nearly opened his mouth. His master was smiling! That had not happened in so long. He knew he had to protect whoever this girl was. Oh shit I hurt her leg. Alec thought.
Felix could hear his Masters words but couldn't believe them. He was showing emotions and not just apathy. He was enjoying himself. And smiling? What the hell is going on? Felix thought.
Bella smiled. She couldn't believe she was joking with a Volturi king. This was unreal.
Marcus loved her smile. It was captivating.
Jacob was becoming more and more uneasy. He preferred no more information and just wanted Bella back.
"Can I go home now?" Bella asked hoping the answer was yes. This was surreal and her leg hurt.
"Yes, forgive my distraction. The conversation was interesting." Marcus said looking at Alex and gesturing to her.
Alec nodded and helped her forward. Bella limped slightly so Alec held onto her.
"Can you walk?" Alec asked not wanting to strain her.
"Yes I think it's just a bruise. Not a big deal." Bella said trying not to wince.
"Alec, help her walk." Marcus said not liking that she was hurt or that he had to watch her go.
Alec nodded and helped her walk towards the wolves.
"Why don't I meet you half way?" Jacob interjected not wanting the little hell spawn holding onto Bella any longer.
Alec nodded and helped Bella halfway between the two groups.
The moment Jacob touched Bella he felt better. Bella relaxed into his grasp as he slowly lifted her into his arms so she wouldn't have to walk.
Marcus felt better she wasn't walking but he still didn't like him holding her. She was in a vulnerable state and his feelings for her were clear. He didn't even know her name. He wanted to stay by her side and get to know her. Then again it's not like he could simply return for her. She still has living family, that he was certain of. It wouldn't be fair to them, plus the wolves would be a problem since she clearly loves them.
Once Bella and Jacob were with the wolves Sam felt better.
"Thank you for keeping your word." Sam said keeping it diplomatic.
"I always keep my word." Marcus simply stated.
"So do we. It should be clear then that these are our lands and the humans here are under our protection. We do not want to have another misunderstanding." Sam said his meaning clearly. He didn't want to give him the impression that they are forgiving.
"Yes, we won't be bothering you again." Marcus didn't mean it but he wanted to get out of this precarious situation as soon as possible. However, he would find a way to reach her again.
"Thank you for understanding. Goodbye." Sam said ending the conversation as politely as he could.
"Farwell. Let us leave now." Marcus said to his two guards.
"Yes Master." They said in unison.
Alec spared one last glance at Bella before she was turned away by Jacob. It made him smirk slightly. As if he could ever forget her.
Felix looked at each wolf taking in as much information as he could for Master Aro. The girl was turned before he could see her face but Alec had that covered.
In an instant they were gone. The pack didn't move until they couldn't hear them anymore. Once they were out of hearing range Sam spoke.
"Leah, Seth, Quil, Jared Paul follow their scent and make sure they are off our land. Do not go further, after that scour the land to see if there are any other scents. I want a full report. We will talk about this later. Secure the reservation first." Sam said and they left. Paul was hesitant but he left to shift and join the rest.
"Bella are you alright?" Sam asked wanting to know how badly injured her leg was.
"No. It hurts way more than a bruise. I think I need to go to the hospital."Bella said trying to stay as calm as possible. She didn't want to face the pack and talk about what happened.
"Jake and I will take you. It would be best not to leave you alone for a while." Sam said getting only a nod from Bella.
"Okay but could we hurry this is really hurting now that the feeling is coming back to my leg." Bella said as she fought the tears threatening to fall.
Jake adjusted his hold then he and Sam began to run as fast as they could without hurting her.
(At the Hospital)
"Well miss Swan it's not too bad this time, just a sprain and the bone was slightly out of place from its socket." The doctor said as if it was nothing. But given that they knew how badly her injuries could get she understood.
"Good?" Bella said not sure how to respond.
"It is. You just need crutches for about two weeks and to rest as much as possible. After that it will twinge a bit but it should be much better." The doctor said as he wrote out a prescription for pain killers and then handed it to her before leaving.
"Well were lucky this was all the damage that little demon managed to do to you." Jacob said with a slight shake.
Bella laughed. The morphine was working.
"I'm sleepy." Bella said as she yawned.
"Sleep. We can talk later. Your dad is on his way. We said you fell while hiking. He's not happy but you should be asleep when he arrives." Jake said as a sleepy Bella only nodded.
She was asleep fairly quickly. Jake took the prescription and slipped it into his pocket.
He pulled the chair closer to the bed and decided to take a nap with her. He had come too close to losing her again today. Not to mention the way they looked at her. Especially that 'Marcus'. Even the devil spawn eyed her in a creepy way. Jake thought he only had to worry about the red headed leech and the poufy haired bastard. Why was Bella such a vampire magnet?
000
(Phone is ringing)
"Brother how are you faring?" Aro spoke as he recognized the number calling.
"Brother you are never going to believe what has happened." Marcus said as he and the two guards flew in a private jet straight to Italy.
"Is something wrong? Do you need help?" Aro asked instantly putting the guards around him on alert. Especially Jane.
"Not anymore. But I believe it would be better to show you rather than tell you. Otherwise you won't believe us." Marcus said as he shared a look with the other guards.
"Very well. When will you arrive?" Aro asked since he could hear the jet engines in the background.
"In about 8 hours." Marcus replied.
"So long? Why can't you just tell me now what happened?" Aro whined hating to wait for any information.
"You never could wait could you?" Marcus replied with a small chuckle.
Aro was thrown. His brother laughed and made a joke. This was unreal without him having to say another word.
"I found her Aro. My reason for living again." Marcus said. When he didn't hear a reply he simply hung up the phone. Surely Aro would snap out of it soon.
There it is. Let me know what you all thought. I hope I didn't disappoint.
