A/N: This is the prequel to 'The Strangest Couple Hogwarts Has Ever Seen.' I got a review asking for it so here it is. Thanks to siriuslysirius12 for that review. You don't need to read this to for the other part of it to make sense and vice versa.
Disclaimer: I do not own anything that has to do with Harry Potter. The plot is mine though.
'How They Came To Be'
It was a cold, gray night in November, and the rain was pouring down hard.
Hermione Granger, the head-girl, was on her way back to her dorm when something outside caught her eye. It turned out to be someone flying in the rain.
"Idiot," she mumbled as she walked outside to tell him off.
"Hey! You! Get down here!" She yelled already soaked.
As the broom flew to a stop, hovering right in front of her, she saw that the 'idiot' was none other than Draco Malfoy, her counterpart, the head-boy.
"Ferret, get inside," she said impatiently.
"Why do you care mudblood?" He asked still hovering.
'I don't know? Why do I care?" She thought to herself. 'Probably for the same reason it hurts when he calls you mudblood. You like him,' said a little voice in the back of her head.
"I do not," she denied out loud. The truth was she had had a crush on him since the beginning of the year. Little did she know, he felt the same way although he wouldn't admit it to anybody for all the money in the world. It wasn't like he needed it anyways.
"What was that?"
"I said I don't care," she said quickly realizing her mistake.
"If you don't care," he said mocking her, "then why are you out here?" He asked with a smirk.
"Because if you get sick from the cold and rain, then I'll have to take care of you, and I'll miss all my classes for who knows how long. Knowing you, you might fake being sick just so I would miss more of my classes. "
"That's called caring Granger," he said ignoring her last remark. "Not for me," he said with a shrug, "but it's still caring. But if you care about your bloody classes that much I guess I'll come in," he said finally landing and getting off his broom.
By now their clothes were sticking to their bodies.
For reasons unbeknownst to themselves they started walking towards the castle side by side.
"Why were you nice to me back there? You weren't throwing insults at me, well maybe a couple, but not as many as you normally do," Hermione said a little ways into their walk back.
"I don't know, Draco said, his demeanor changing from hard and cold, to soft and warm. "Since the beginning of the year I've kind of had this crush on you. You've kind of changed me without knowing it. I guess what I'm saying is I care," he finished sheepishly.
Hermione stopped and smiled at him.
"I care too."
He captured her lips in a soft, quick, yet passionate kiss.
They walked a little farther then Draco slipped his hand into Hermione's.
"I like the rain," he whispered squeezing her hand a little.
"I do too," she replied squeezing back.
"Let's keep this a secret for now," He said once they reached the castle. "I'm not sure that too many people would approve."
"Just what I was thinking."
"See, Granger," he said slipping his arm around her waist and pulling her closer to him. "We are good together already."
"I guess so, Malfoy," She said putting her head on his shoulder. "Let's go get dried off," she said walking down the same steps that she abandoned earlier.
"Good idea."
"I know," she said with a smirk worthy of her boyfriend himself.
All he did was chuckle.
A/N: I know it's a little short, but it's really sweet too. I like the softer side of Draco. Please tell me what you thought of the story.
