Slipping Away

Dean swung around the corner, gun in hand, sweat on his brow. He saw Sammy sitting on the floor in the corner of the room, in the shadows. Only the bottom half of Sam's long legs were visible in the waning light.
"Where-," Dean shouted.
"It's gone, Dean. Gave me the slip."
Harsh words were on the cusp on Dean's lips but he sucked them in. He crouched down to peer at his brother.
"Sammy?"
Sam's head lolled and Dean grabbed his brother's shoulders before his head hit the floor. Right now, there was something more important than a monster.
