"You look terrible Helga! Are you feeling better?" exclaimed Arnold. His usual perky and energetic girlfriend has been reduced to a lifeless blob sitting quietly on their brick red couch in their tiny living room, staring idly into space with the occasional cough and sneeze coming out from her.
"I'm sick, thanks for the reminder. And no, I'm most certainly not. " snapped Helga miserably as coughs and sneezes escaped her throat. She huddled close to her beloved as he sat down on the couch next to her, desperate for the warmth that seemed to seep away from her, despite all the thick blankets that hugged her body tightly.
"Well, I made some soup for you. Look while you eat, its hot." smiled Arnold warmly as he got up slowly from the couch, proceeding into their bedroom after a long day of work for a well deserved shower. He also wanted Helga to discover his surprise without his presence to give away the secret.
"Alphabet soup. Blimey, does he think I'm some five year old dweeb." Helga whispered to herself and she gulped down her warm soup nosily, appreciating the hot sensation that blazed through her frozen body.
Although Helga didn't admit it, she secretly loved drinking alphabet soup, finding great joy in slurping down all her soup and rearranging the miniscule letters to form words. She followed through with her age old routine, rearranging the letters at the bottom of her bowl with her fingers, completely oblivious that Arnold was watching her from afar, clearly pleased that his surprise was working out just as he had planned.
"Hmm lets see here. M..A..R..R… wait a second." Helga eyes nearly popped out of their sockets and she solved her alphabet soup puzzle with ease, and was indeed, very shocked with what she sad. Blinking back in utter amazement to check if she was definitely not hallucinating from sickness, Arnold crept up from behind her and whispered gently behind her ear, fingering a thin gold band on her finger.
"Helga, would you marry me?" was what he said that day.
