I watched the pouty expression on my best friends face as he sat nearby, unwilling to join in, to have fun.
"C'mon Shay!" I shouted, kicking a huge pile of crispy, colourful leaves up into the air "It's fun!"
"Michelle Torres, how old are you?" he said, rolling his eyes. He slipped a hand through his hair and let out a frustrated sigh.
"You're never too old for Autumn" I point out, giggling.
"Autumns stupid" I hear him mumble.
I push my brunette hair behind my ears, and put my hands on my hips. The wind is blowing harshly, but I'm not cold - I wind the scarf around my neck again and skip up to Shane, sitting on the fence next to him. He's only holding on with one hand, texting with the other. He tolerates my immaturity - because we're best friends, I guess. I seize the opportunity, pushing him firmly off the fence. He topples backwards and lands in a giant pile of leaves, and a huge burst of laughter escapes from me. I can't see Shane anymore, but then his head pops out from under all the leaves, and I can't help but giggle again. I gently lean over the fence and pull a bright yellow leaf from his hair, which immediately crumbles in my hand. Without warning, he grabs my wrist and I fall forward, landing next to him in the brightly coloured blanket of leaves. I let out a small giggle, and smack Shane's muscular arm.
"Idiot!" I say, playfully. I take the chance now to glance at his face, and it takes me back. He's grinning, showing his perfect smile. The smile I love so much. He's not rock star Shane anymore, he's my Shane. The Shane I've known since I was five years old.
I take in a deep breath as he moves closer toward me, pushing a hand through my hair. His touch is warm and gentle, and then our lips brush softly. Our first kiss. His lips are warm and soft, and I can't even feel the harsh breeze anymore. Because I'm in his arms, and it's home.
He gently pulls back, grinning widely.
"I like Autumn" he says.
