The streets were quiet and empty on Valentine's Day in the little town of Alternia. Almost everyone was out on a date with their loved ones in the city or in another country. It was awfully lonely and cold, the snow piling up on the little brick houses that were without a roaring fire and a lonely heart. Kanaya sat on her room floor with a fluffy, yet fashionable lime green sweater on, knitting a jade green scarf to send to her girlfriend on the other side of the world. She didn't feel lonely as she did this, she thought, because she was doing this for someone she loved. She didn't mind a bit.

On the same street in Alternia, another house had smoke rising from it's chimney. In the Makara household, Gamzee was putting on a coat and mittens and pulling a purple hat over his unruly and matted hair. He peeked outside his curtains and watched the house across the street for any sign of movement. Kanaya's house was outside his, and she was the only other person left in town this Valentine's Day.

He opened his door and ran to Kanaya's lawn, his boots leaving big clown feet footprints in the fresh snow. He began his work, building a large ball of snow, and then a smaller one, and then the smallest. He stacked them on top of each other and then proceeded to make a second snowman. After about an hour, he ran inside his house to get a few materials and add the finishing touches to his snowpeople. Grinning widely, he stared at his work for a few minutes, and then hesitantly walked up to Kanaya's porch and placed his mitt on the doorbell. Hesitantly, he pushed it once, and then twice, then thrice. He waited.

Kanaya looked up from her work, frowning a little. Why was there someone visiting? It was Valentine's Day, for pete's sake. Nobody was supposed to be in town, so she hadn't bothered with shoveling her walkway. Suddenly she felt concerned. The poor dear must have trudged through knee-deep snow to get to her door! She had better answer before they freeze to death.

She ran downstairs and opened the door to her visitor, and her eyes opened wide in shock.

"Gamzee?! I certainly didn't expect you to be here today, or to visit me, of all things! Please, come inside! You must be freezing!" She moved from her doorway as a gesture fro him to come in. He smiled and shook his head, and pointed at her lawn.

"Come outside first, I made you some motherfuckin' snow dudes."

Kanaya lifted one eyebrow, and then proceeded to pull on her combat boots and step outside. Gamzee accompanied her to the sidewalk and smiled, waiting for her reaction.

The first snowman had a clown wig on and a spray-painted purple smile and eyes. It was facing the second, who had a sleek black wig with short, straight hair and spray-painted jade green eyes, and was shorter than the first. It's mouth, however. was actually put on with black lipstick. The two snowpeople were looking into each other;s eyes and holding hands. On the ground by their feet, where it was nearly stripped of snow, in red paint it said "hApPy VaLeNtInE's DaY kAn."

A smile creeped onto Kanaya's lips, and she felt warm inside. She never thought Gamzee, of all people, would do something so sweet for her. She felt his mittened hand touch hers, and she grabbed it and held it. She looked him in the eyes and saw him shyly look away. Even though she hated the smell of weed constantly surrounding him and even though she had a fight with him before, she still liked his general mellowness and how honest and simple he was. Maybe he was even a little cute. Yes, just a little. She'd allow that.

"Why don't you come in now?" She continued smiling at him.

"Yeah, sure, why the hell not." He followed her into her house, still holding her hand through his mitt.
