"The Founding of Hogwarts"

Nick DeWitt

Prologue

Through the mist and fog, four heavily-bundled people wound their way through roughly-hewn rock; through peaks and valleys full of little more than snow and icy, unrelenting wind. Suddenly, far in the distance, a particularly high peak emerged from above the fog. The snow seemed to part as the large precipice suddenly loomed over them.

The figure leading the group was a lion of a man. He looked, with squinted eyes, toward the high peak. His journey from civilization, along with the others, had been particularly rough. It had, however, been necessary. He and his kind would no longer be accepted by regular society; not after one of his close friends had made a grave mistake. Now they would be forced to strike out on their own and begin a new life. But even as he and his three companions glared upwards to the highest peak in the area, he could see a bright future. This peak would be the home of their project. This mountain would be the dwelling for their legacy.

Godric Gryffindor turned to his friends Rowena Ravenclaw, Salazar Slytherin, and Helga Hufflepuff and spoke for the first time in days. While he had been nothing if not somber since their departure, he now spoke with great excitement. "This, my friends, is where we shall begin anew! This is where we will begin building our legacy. Welcome to our new home!"

With that, the foundation had, at last, been laid for the school which all four had desired to build before everything on the home front had forced them all northward.
