"Merry Christmas everyone!" Pippin shouted, waking everyone up.

"What do you mean? Do you wish me a Merry Christmas, or mean that it is a Merry Christmas whether I want it or not; or that you feel merry this Christmas; or that it is a Christmas to be merry on?" Gandalf asked.

"I suppose he means all of them at once," Frodo put in.

"Oooh Merry you are going to enjoy my present for you!" Pippin exclaimed.

"What is it?" Merry asked.

"I can't tell you that! You have to open it for yourself." And he did. Merry carefully unwrapped the sloppily-wrapped light green fabric around his present. It was pipeweed!

"Thanks, Pip! Here's my gift for you!" Merry handed Pippin a gift carefully-wrapped in dark green fabric. Pippin quickly opened it to discover it too was pipeweed. Everyone laughed at Pippin's startled expression.

"I guess we know each other too well Pip!" Merry said.

"I guess so," Pippin replied. The two quickly started to use their fresh supply of pipeweed.

"Here Sam, this is for you," Frodo said, handing Sam a large gift wrapped in blue fabric,

"Oh you didn't have to Mr. Frodo! Especially not something so large," Sam said.

"But I did, Sam. I knew you would have gotten me something." And indeed Sam did. Sam pulled out a chain and a now-dried flower from his pocket.

"The chain is for your ring, Mr. Frodo, as you broke your last one," Sam explained.

"And the flower?" Frodo asked.

"It's to remind you of home. It's from your garden," Sam said, hesitantly.

"You brought it all this way?" Sam nodded. "You never cease to amaze me, Samwise. Now open what I got you."

Sam carefully opened the fabric, revealing a rope.

"Bless you, Mr. Frodo, this is precisely what I forgot to bring!" Sam folded up the fabric and put that and the rope in his pack.

Legolas took out of his pack a small bow and quiver of arrows and handed them to Gimli.

"Why would I accept a gift from an elf the likes of you?" Gimli asked.

"You should be grateful for my gift, dwarf."

"Aye, I'm kidding you lad," he said as he pulled out an ax and handed it to Legolas. Legolas slid his hand along the handle, contemplating how this could be a weapon. Gimli was actually grateful for the bow, for he had always used one as a child.

"Aren't you guys going to exchange gifts?" Merry asked Aragorn, Boromir, and Gandalf.

"I didn't bring any gifts," Aragorn explained.

"Neither did I," Boromir said.

"I was not aware that we were doing a gift exchange," Gandalf said.

"Well are we going to have breakfast or what?" Pippin asked, and everyone laughed. "What? I'm starved. We haven't even had one breakfast yet."

At that note everyone started to clean up and prepare breakfast.
