Technically this is not a rumor, but it has not been given the go ahead yet - so "rumor" I shall call it, until Mr. Sega brings out his megaphone and makes it gospel.
It appears that a once loved/hated (delete as appropriate) Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon might make a comeback. Over at the "Fans United for SatAM" (or FUS) forums, one member, MysteriousAnimatorX, is putting forward a pitch to Sega to bring back the Sonic the Hedgehog SatAM cartoon.
Now I know what you are thinking. "Yeah whatever, Sega won't listen to some snivelling fan, just because he has a good/bad idea." Well quite so, if this was just another random kid…
MysteriousAnimatorX, or Matt Sullivan (as his real life friends know him), has some experience in the industry, as he explains:
"…I'm a professional animator who's worked on a lot of cartoons. Too many to list, but if you've ever seen The SIMPSONS, THE GRIM ADVENTURES OF BILLY AND MANDY, or FAMILY GUY, you've seen some of my storyboard work."
"…I'm currently putting together a pitch that, if successful, would basically bring SATAM back from the dead ( Don't worry, it's not gonna be anything like SONIC UNDERGROUND. ) I feel compelled to say this is only a pitch. I have no guarantee of success, nor will I claim that I am some great Hollywood bigshot. The only thing I CAN tell you is that I'm a fan, and I want to see it done right. In other words, I'll do my best."
Yeah, it is just a pitch right now. So those of you who are fans should hold on, and don't get too excited. And if you hate the show then, keep holding your breath - Sega might say "No" to the idea, and all will be good.
"I know there have been many attempts by fans to revive SATAM. Having read the story of SONMANIC, I believe his failure was simply a matter of professionalism and decorum, and following the rules. ( That, and he seems to be something of a psycho. ) Only time will tell if we're successful. I say WE, because I know there are bound to be lots of questions and concerns which I'll be more than happy to answer if you just ask me. -"
To be honest, I have never really watched the Sonic cartoons. I remember watching a few episodes of one when I was younger, but I don't remember much about it. But a quick check on Youtube, and I kind of hope this cartoon never sees the light of day again.
Or, I just hope Matt's ideas include making the show better and more accessable for modern audiences. Still it's not as bad as Sonic Underground - I just watched the opening video to that, and hope to never see more of it!
So do you guys think this is good or bad news? Let us know what you think. If you have any comments or questions for Matt Sullivan, be sure to post them up in the FUS forums.
Now if your aren't a fan of the original SATAM show then don't worry it probably wont get greenlite. But if you are, then show your support by sending emails to Sega telling them " I BELIVE IN MATT SULLIVAN", or go to . were Matt Sullivan will answer your questions.
