When you are with me
There is a harmonious singing of birds in the early mornings.
Down in the valleys and fields of rich fertility
Flowers bloom of every hue
Newborn lambs stand upon shaky limbs
While their mothers feast on grass doused in fresh dew.
And then I hold you close, trying so hard not to remember…
Remember the cold, the harsh,
The emptiness of sadness that sends shivers racing down my spine
When everything loses color.
My world becomes a place of icy loneliness and I cannot see your smile.
Green fades and crumbles to brown and black
Like the death of the old corn crops where I wait for you
To come back.
