"Mona come on the rest of the class is getting onboard the ship, lets go." Karen called to her friend.
"Ok, Ok Kar I'm coming." Said Mona exasperatedly.
The two girls walked up the gangplank their arms hooked together.
They sat down next to some girls they knew and started chatting about the trip they were about to embark on.
"Alright everybody's here captain and we are ready to shove off." Their Professor said.
With that they were off to explore the waters.
Mona watched the water as the boat made waves in it.
Her and her whole college marine biology class were going out to sea to study whales and dolphins for a few days.
After a while Mona got bored, so she went to the bow of the boat to look over the water.
It was a beautiful sight with the sun setting right on the water.
But she was getting tired.
She went below deck to the cabin she shared with Karen and two other girls they knew.
"I'll just take a little rest and then I'll be fine." Mona said to herself as she drifted off to sleep.
About four hours later Mona and the others, who had joined her, were jerked awake by a giant thump of an object hitting the ship.
The girls leaped out of bed and joined the throng of curious colleagues making their way to the deck of the ship.
They came upon a horrendous sight.
Giant pink octopus looking monsters were battling the crew of the ship.
Immediately the boys in her class ran to help.
Some of the girls did too, but mostly they ran and hid.
Mona didn't know what to do.
She stood there frozen wondering if she should help or run and hide.
Suddenly she heard footsteps coming.
Mona pressed herself into the shadows as a tall figure that was dressed like a pirate captain walked past her.
The man breathed in deeply.
"I love the smell of panic in the morning." He said with a strong French accent.
He watched as the pink monsters continuously threw her colleagues and the crew off them.
The whole time Mona was quietly inching away from him.
When she came to the corner she bolted down the deck.
She ran smack into one of the monsters.
It tried to grab her but she kicked it away and hopped to her feet.
She ran towards the lifeboats where the crew was evacuating everyone into the boats.
Mona was the last one to have to board.
But before she could get on on of the monsters grabbed her and pulled her away from the boats.
"MONA!" Karen screamed as the monsters pulled her friend away.
"We can't wait for her we must leave!" The captain said holding her back.
The ropes were cut and the boats dropped into the water and started rowing away.
Mona struggled with all her might to get free.
The monster brought her to the man dressed as a pirate.
"Oh and who are you little lady."He asked grinning.
Mona glared at him not answering.
"You look very familiar." The guy said leaning in closer to have a better look at her face.
He got a weird look on his face as if he had just remembered something.
"You're Mona Lisa Gherabaldi, the successful physics major from New York State University that I see on TV sometimes, I must say I admire your work my dear." He said.
He waved his hand signaling the monster to let go of her.
"What luck for me to find you on this ship, for I am in need of your services, and just so you know I, Captain Filch, the greatest modern day pirate in the world, always get my way." Filch said.
"I'd rather work for sea sludge then you!" Mona spat at him.
"Oh aren't we a fiesty one." Filch said glaring at her.
