Under-standard poem. Rushed, believe me. Still, enjoy the rhyming, and enjoy the fact that it makes sense. Note that all odd lines rhyme with "day" and all even ones rhyme with "night".
-. Day and Night .-
On we move without delay
Going while the sun shines bright
Guard up as we're on the way
Ready for ambush or fight
-
Nightfall. Sunlight fades away
Cloaked by dusk in firelight
Resting, we shed our dismay
Sit and eat, become polite
-
Talk and song keep sleep at bay
Some romance, a friendy fight
Then we lie back on the hay
Wishing all our friends good night
-
Is it just a game they play?
In our fear they take delight
Every villager they slay
Is a blatant show of might
-
Every battle, every day
Every fire we ignite
Is in vain, the people say
Dare we kill one dark as night?
-
Still we go, say what they may
Forth, in hope to end our plight
War in perfect disarray
Terror, bloodshed all in sight
-
Must our lives go on this way?
Far from home, from warm streetlight?
From our past we've walked away
To a call, to greater height
-
For our friends, our cause must stay!
For the land, for every right,
We must go, make way, make way!
Last it out, each day, each night.
