Forgiveness

by Aizhen Aschenhimmel

Disclaimer: If I own FF4, Kain's face would have been shown in full, lush 3D in the DS remake. So obviously I don't own anything.

A/N: Something FF, and one inspired by the KainxRydia community here. Enjoy. On with the show :D

Murder is unforgivable. Life is irreplaceable. And hatred is all-consuming.

But if there is one thing Rydia had been sure of in the whirlwind of adventure and betrayals that is her life, it is that she was never born to hate.

Yet here, in the ashen remains of her childhood, the memory of revenge crept back with its most haunting voice.

Sometimes she wished she is a spiteful creature. It sounded and felt horrible, wishing for hate, but she felt that she have to...especially when life began to center on the one she should be cursing.

The one who, by all righteous anger, shouldn't be here with her.

Obsessing on long blond hair and sad blue eyes feels like a transgression.

If she could forgive the dark knight, certainly she could forgive the dragoon, right? Forgiveness is indiscriminant. She wasn't born to hate.

But forgiving isn't entirely the same as loving.

And love, like hatred, is all-consuming.

It is madness sweet enough to override guilt and sorrow and pain.

Forgive me.

Repentance won't bring back lost lives, lost smiles, the sunlit days with Mother.

I...

Neither will forgiveness.

Neither will love.

Kain.

But she wasn't born to hate. And love is all-consuming.

I forgive you.

I love you.

It feels like sin.

If only she could forgive herself for loving him.

...

A/N: I just had to post this...it was finished a long time ago, and it felt like a waste if I don't post this (this is my first foray in Final Fantasy, XP). Not that I think this is exceptional...just an angsty take on the KainxRydia pairing. I dunno, really. Reviews will be welcome :D
