Bobby Goren and his partner of seven years, Alex Eames, had been watching the apartment building from their SUV for over five hours. Nothing exciting had happened, and they were getting restless.
"Alex, I'm going to run to that coffee shop we passed on the way here. Do you want something?" Bobby glanced at the petite blond sitting in the drivers seat. Bobby drove them around a few times at the beginning of their partnership, but Alex soon decided that was her duty to make sure they got to their destination in one piece.
"Sure. Just the regular, thanks." Alex looked at Bobby and gave him a small smile before turning her attention back to the building.
Several minutes later Bobby returned with two cups of coffee, one in each hand and a brown paper bag with the logo of the local coffee shop on it. Alex unlocked the door for Bobby and waited as he climbed and handed her the caramel latte.
"Careful, it's hot." He said.
"Thanks, Dad" Alex replied with her familiar sarcasm. Bobby chuckled. Alex smiled. 'Wow, she is so beautiful when she smiles' Bobby thought. 'Heck, she's gorgeous all the time. Even when she's mad at me' . He chuckled again quietly. Alex glanced over. "What's so funny?" "Nothing" He said with an adorable smile. Alex turned back to the building they were watching and rolled her eyes. Her partner was a little weird, but she loved him and wouldn't trade him for anything. She just wished he knew that.
A few seconds passed, with the two of them watching the apartment building as if it were the most interesting thing they'd ever seen. Alex reached for her coffee and took a sip.
"Mmm" Alex sighed. "This is so good, I could kiss you!" As soon as the words were out of her mouth, she wanted to crawl under the seat and die. She felt her cheeks warming and hoped Bobby wouldn't notice.
Knowing her like he did, Bobby noticed the pink spreading over her cheeks. And she had never looked more beautiful to him. He cleared his throat awkwardly.
"Bobby, I am so sorry. It just slipped out. I didn't mean to make you feel uncomfortable." Alex said in a rush. She had been staring at her lap during this and was surprised to find Bobby had slid across the seat and was now sitting very close to Alex. He was staring at her with a strange look on her face.
"Alex" Bobby whispered. He leaned in close and kissed her softly. Bobby pulled away and looked into her eyes.
"Wow, that must be some pretty incredible coffee!" he said
She stared back at him, smiled shyly and kissed him softly again.
"I love you, Alex"
"I love you too, Bobby"
They stared into each others eyes for several moments before Bobby smiled and reached for the brown paper bag from the coffee shop.
"Do you want to share this danish with me?"
