Master of Seals, Mistress of Technology
Chapter 1: Disciples of the Mask
Naruto Uzumaki has been called many things; an idiot, a demon, 'that brat'. Indeed all the words he has been called by are usually unflattering, but there is one word he has never been known by, a word that when put into a sentence such as "Naruto is a ..." produces derisive laughter. The word in question? Genius.
A simple word that influences a ninja's entire career.
Most people learn to expect the unexpected with one Naruto Uzumaki, but even the most open-minded of people have a limit on what they'll believe. In this way Naruto is one of the only two people in ninja history to have done what he has done. He has successfully deceived an entire village full of some of the best and most renowned ninjas in the entire elemental nations into thinking of him as nothing more than an idiotic child with an unusual ability to turn any and every situation to his advantage. No one thought to give such an ability the scrutiny it deserved, it never crossed anyone's mind that it should be impossible for an idiot who insults everyone he comes across at some point or another, to strengthen the villages ties with every mission he took. The thought of Naruto intentionally being an idiot, of intentionally strengthening the village by manipulating those of importance in foreign lands, was so far out of the realm of possibility that no one even considered it.
And that is exactly what Naruto wanted.
Hinata Hyūga was a shy, polite little girl who would never say anything bad against anyone. She was also the failure of the Hyūga clan, Konohagakure's most prestigious clan, the possessors of the all-seeing eyes, the Byakugan. While many outside of her clan would describe her as a smart girl who was overall an excellent ninja with a bright future ahead of her, her clan would not be convinced. They who possessed the Byakugan could not be wrong, they saw a failure so that is what she must be.
Hinata was, to those who knew her, easily predictable. They knew everything about her, and they knew that, like the sun would rise and set the next day, she would never change. She would always be shy, she would always be polite, and she would always possess a crush over one Naruto Uzumaki. Even her clan had accepted these facts about her. It never crossed their minds that people's, especially women's, emotional states change all the time, that it was impossible for a person's emotional state to have remained almost completely static since the age of six. No they didn't question it, the only thought to ever cross their minds in regards to Hinata was that they were thankful they could depend on one thing in their lives remaining almost blissfully the same.
And that is exactly what Hinata wanted.
