Sitting at a lone window,
staring into a divided world.
He knows it's not enough,
nor will ever be.

His nights are dark,
the dreams become more and more terrifying.
The grounds, covered in blood.
Bodies, staring at the sky with unseeing eyes.

He remembers the day that changed everything.
He remembers like it was yesterday
not years ago.

He can still hear the screams,
growing faint and fading away
as time went by.

Cold stone,
trembling hands touching its rough surface.
Tracing letters, whispering a name.

Angels aren't to be forgotten.

He should have known that it was a trap.
He knew she wasn't comfortable
with going underground.
And still he trusted her to handle it.
As she always did.

They pulled her out
and he turned away.
Couldn't bear to see her broken body.
The dried tears on her face.
The fear in her unseeing eyes.

Her image is haunting him,
coming to him at night.
Yelling at him, asking why.
Why didn't he save her?
