It had been a rough few days – Clem, the 456, all of his secrets coming to the surface and Ianto (oh Ianto…), but Jack needed to go on, if not for him then for Gwen, the rookie who'd been through so much these past few months since he'd recruited her… For Grey… The brother he'd once lost but now had returned to him, buried deep in a cryo-freeze cabinet under the ruins of Torchwood 3…

Down down down into the ruins Jack climbed, always hunting, searching, for Gray. It took Jack hours to reach him, but there, in the early hours of the morning, he finally stood in the medical bay which, surprisingly, still stood largely intact, even after the explosion…

Slowly, carefully, Jack pulled Gray's cabinet out of storage and looked sadly down upon it. Oh Gray, what happened to you all those years ago?...

"Goodbye Gray, goodbye brother" Jack said, softly. "It'll be a long time before I'll see you again, but, after everything, I'll do all I can to bring you back, when bygones are bygones and I can finally forgive myself for what happened that day, I only hope that you can too…"

He sighs, giving Gray a sad, weary, smile.

Slowly, carefully, laying across the cabinet, giving him one last 'goodbye', Jack kisses the glass porthole above Gray's head and then, once more, carefully returns it back to its storage unit.

"Goodbye my brother…"
