Steal my Sunshine

Prologue

I am so tired.

It is so boring... the maple syrup that I accidentally drizzled over half my desk is bored, too. It's beginning to dry. Where to start, where to start? My... I don't know, it's not really my entire -life-... well, my situation. Ok, my situation. It's a total mess. I mean, there are SIXTIES in my report card! It only takes an eighty to sober me up, but a sixty?

That's major psychological damage.

Maybe that's why I've been half-draped over my broken chair, wheeling around my bedroom like an idiot for the last few hours since waking up at 2 in the afternoon. Maybe that's why I stopped picking up my clothes and books and other items off the floor. Maybe that's why I became a total slob, and why there are candy wrappers and failed assignments on the floor. Now, I can't do anything-- where's that smiling kid from before?

You can't let something like this get you down, aibou. Now show me the child you used to be... the you before last summer. Before you changed and became the strange, new thing you are in the present.

Before last summer? Why then? What happened last summer?

Again you are turning your pretty head the other way, aibou. Stop running.

W..what are you talking about, mou hitori no boku? Nothing happened to me during the summer. Nothing.

You know what happened to you inside.

M-mou hitori no boku... stop it! Just, stop! You and I-- we-- both know that nothing happened! What are you trying to imply?

Aibou, you know what happened.

...

Where is your smile, aibou? The smile we know and love. Where is it now?

I-i...

Nothing happened, ne.

No, nothing...

Then look into our soul and look at me. Look me in the eyes. No, don't cast your eyes down like that. Raise them, and look at me.

Wh-why?! What are you trying to do? There's nothing wrong; nothing! Why is this important?

Aibou... look at you now. I can see the fear on your face. Where did it come from? Are you afraid of me? No?

Just stop, and leave me alone!

...

Thank-you..

Why is it that you cannot raise your eyes to me? There is a darkness in your heart, aibou. You are my hikari; the darkness within your half is tainting our soul. We are becoming unbalanced. You may not be aware of it, but please, understand. Look at yourself now-- look at us. Step outside of your soma, and look at your life now.
