Haruhi Suzumiya cradled her bundle closer. Most people wouldn't think of stealing from the fairies, but Haruhi was determined to anyway. It would be interesting, and as far as she knew nobody had ever tried to steal this particular item.
Though, the bundle was hardly an item. No, something much more daring. This was something that was very dangerous to steal, indeed. A child.
Haruhi cared about none of that. She had wanted one, and to keep her away would be impossible. She was well known for being stubborn, and there were always people telling the young lady to settle down, find a husband to care for, or such nonsense. Like a man couldn't care for himself, like she wanted to care for one!
Still, despite that, she had wanted to care for a child.
She knew the villagers, how they think. What they would say. She had not been seen pregnant. They would say, and it would be true, that he was kidnapped.
So she was leaving. They would eventually have executed her anyway, paranoid about witchcraft. She could survive, she would go elsewhere. The knowledge of plants and herbs that had gotten her accused of witchcraft would keep her fed, and the child was old enough to have been weaned off breast milk anyways. She had made sure of that.
The only problem would be keeping the villagers in the new place off her back about witchcraft, too. The name the child had come with would attract too much attention in that area, so she had gifted him a new one. If she didn't bring too much attention to her eccentricities, it would be fine.
The child didn't much like his new name. Too bad. They always knew their names, fairies, no matter the age. Fairies told their children their true names, didn't bother giving them another. Once you know your true name, you cannot forget it.
Already, he was so insistent on his real name, saying it every time she referred to him with the new one. She would need to be careful about that. When he was asleep, introduce them then.
"I'm Haruhi Suzumiya, and this is my son, Kyon."

A/N: I haven't seen a whole lot of AU's in this section, so there you go. EDIT: FFiction is ruining my format. Gah.
