Disclaimer: I don't own Rookie Blue
A.N. I was talking to a co-worker who is divorced and she was telling me something about her son which gave me this idea…
Just a short one-shot.
Hope you enjoy!
"I'm not going."
"I know you don't want to…"
"I'm not going."
Traci stopped, exasperated, and looked at her son. "Why not?"
"Because."
"Leo, because is not a good answer. You are going to spend the weekend with Daddy."
"He just spends all that time with that lady. The one you said was a friend of his."
"He doesn't spend any time with you?" That didn't sound like Dex.
"He does, but she doesn't like me and I know she doesn't like me."
Traci raised an eyebrow. This was a new one. She would have to talk to Dex about Leo's feelings, not that Dex would actually listen to her. "He is still your father and you are going to him for the weekend."
"Why? He doesn't like me. Why can't Jerry be my Daddy?"
Before Traci could formulate an answer, the current topic of their discussion walked in. "Leo, you ready to go?"
Leo looked at his mother. "You see? Jerry cares."
Jerry looked at Traci and raised a questioning eyebrow. She gave a subtle jerk with her head. "I see you are not ready. Five minutes, okay little man?" he ruffled Leo's hair and slipped out of the room. He had caught Traci's signal that she needed to be alone with her son.
Traci sighed when Jerry left the room. Dex told her he had broken up to try with her. In truth, the yoga teacher had broken up with Dex and Dex used Traci as a pawn to get his girl back. Dex also did not like it that Leo kept asking for Jerry.
"Leo, I will talk to Daddy. We will see if something can be worked out."
"But Mommy, why can't Jerry be my Daddy?"
Traci groaned. "Leo, do Mommy a big favor and don't mention that to your Daddy. I am going to take care of it."
"Promise?"
"I promise."
Leo gave her a big hug and then ran out of the room screaming "Jerry, I'm ready!"
Later that evening, Traci and Jerry sat on his deck, snuggling together under a blanket. As much as he loved Traci's little boy, he enjoyed having Traci to himself. "So," he murmured in her ear "wanna tell me what happened before while you were packing? Leo normally rushes you."
Traci pulled away to look at him. "He hates Dex right now."
Jerry was startled. Of all the answers, that was not what he expected. "Since when? Why? Two weeks ago he was so excited to see him."
"The girl Dex is dating, again. The one he used me as a tool towards getting her back. She doesn't like Leo and Leo knows it. Leo thinks Dex doesn't like him." Tears began pooling in her eyes.
Jerry pulled her close. "Sh, Trace, it's just a stage. He will grow out of it."
"There's more" she said into his chest.
Jerry rubbed her back and patiently waited for her to compose herself.
"He wanted to know why Dex is his father. He wants you to be his Daddy."
Jerry gasped. "What did you tell him?"
Traci buried her head deeper into his chest. "I told him I would work it out."
Jerry pushed away from her and cupped her head in his hands. "Are you saying what I think I am saying?"
Traci nodded against his hands. "If Dex doesn't want him, he can just leave. I can manage Leo alone and I know you'll be there to help me."
Jerry kissed her sweetly. "Always."
A.N. This was actually written a while ago and I just realized that I never posted it – my bad!
Let me know what you think.
