Author's Note: I'm still working on my other story but I felt compelled to write this after last night's episode.
Untitled
"I guess you just… never know when death is coming."
"No, we don't. And that's why we shouldn't live in fear of it."
Silence. No windows down to let in the sound of the wind whipping around the car. No radio. And for the first time in a while, no sniffles and tears.
A comfortable silence had settled in her car as she drove down the highway, her hands loosely clutching the steering wheel. Her shift had ended just minutes ago and she needed to make a pit stop before heading home for the night.
The conversation she had earlier with her boss continued to play itself over and over and over again in her mind as she exited the highway and began making her way through a small residential area.
"You're right… you're right."
After arriving at her destination, she exited from her car and started up the walkway toward a decent-sized house, her heels tapping against the pavement until she reached the front door. She knocked, her fist hitting the rich wood four times, before dropping her hand down to her side.
The door swung open to reveal to her the man on the other side, who smirked once he identified his visitor. His eyes, shining with a hunger for her, left her face to wander over every curve of her body for minute or two. This was something that had always made her uncomfortable, scared, and feeling very vulnerable... But not today. You never know when death is coming. And that's why we shouldn't live in fear of it.
"Changed your mind about that ring?" He sounded pleased.
He opened the door wider to allow her entrance to his house. Nothing told her to turn back as she stepped into the foyer. And then the door to the house in Coral Gables closed.
"Then I will see you tomorrow."
Early that next morning, Miami-Dade's medical examiner and lieutenant were down in the morgue, standing over the bloody, bruised, and broken body of CSI Natalia Boa Vista.
"I will see you tomorrow."
Author's Note: Did ya like it? (Sad, I know.) Thanks for reading, and remember--reviews are always welcome!
