My first attempt at reconciliation of Remus/Tonks and Sirius/Remus. Therefore, I don't like it that much, just like I don't like Remus/Tonks. This isn't one. Long live puppylove.

Self-Punishment

"You realize what you are doing, if you accept this mission?"

"Of course."

Dumbledore was not accepting it.

"I just want to help in any way that I can," Remus said quietly, hands folded in his lap, eyes somewhere above and beyond Dumbledore's head.

"This is as close to a suicide mission as I could give anyone, Remus," he said gently. "And I know it hurts that Sirius is gone, but you mustn't take it simply because you think it may make you feel better, to be hurt."

Remus would never interrupt Dumbledore, but his hands clenched his his lap.

"Sirius would have taken it - so would anyone else in the Order if you asked them. But it just so happens that I'm the only werewolf you've got. I'll do it."

Dumbledore sighed at the resolve in Remus' words.

"Just don't forget why you're going in there. Don't get yourself killed for Sirius' memory. He'd never forgive me for making you go if you did."

"Thank you, Professor. I'll stock up on a few things and then go as soon as possible."

Remus stood, stoic in his choice.

"Take care."

Remus left the room. Tonks came in.

"Did he take it?" she asked, nearly breathless, eyes frantic.

"Yes," Dumbledore said softly, wearily, settling into his chair in front of the fire.

Tonks colapsed into the recently vacated chair and covered her face with her hands.

"He's going to get himself killed, I know it," she mumbled.

"Well, I'm sure you could catch him before he goes..."

Tonks didn't look up. "I can't tell him... It's too stupid..."

"Well, you may be running out of time," Dumbledore said gently as Molly's voice started calling people to supper. "This is a war, we need a the love we can get."
