Authors Note: So this is my first fanfiction so go easy on me please. Just a quick note before you read this chapter. This Prologue chapter is simply an info dump on my version of why the ppg and rrb were made as well as introducing the main mad guy of this story, my very own oc, Blackfire. I usually don't like it when people put oc's onto their stories but Blackfire is a key in which this story is fashioned around. Although, you won't see much of him for a while after the prologue ends. Don't worry, the story still holds a heavy focus on the ppg and the rrb and several other characters such as Mike Believe and Morbucks. And I think that's all I wanted to say. So without further ado, let the journey begin.
PROLOGUE
Professor Jay Lynn was not your typical scientist who worked with chemicals. Several years ago she was indoctrinated into a secret governmental group, hell bent on creating world peace. The group consisted of Project Alpha lead, Doctor Bron Vinderheart, Professor Zachery Fritz, Professor Jay Lynn, and their lab assistant, John Utonium.
Professor Lynn hardly knew any of her peers. She had brief informative conversations with the head of the project, simple updates on her progress with Chemical X. Zachery was a lecher. A weasel of a man who only knew how to speak in lewd and perverse language. Last week after Professor Zachery gave an, indecent compliment about her behind, she rewarded him with a slap across the face. She enjoyed watching him fall to the floor. The crack was reminiscent to that of thunder, only with the elegance of lightning. Since then, the comments had stopped.
The only real help in the laboratory was John. Professor Lynn never had to explain what she meant or what she needed, John was a brilliant young man on his way to earning the title, Professor. If any man deserves to be recognized as a professor, John would be that man, Lynn thought to herself as she watched him add a new compound into the testing tube before her.
John Utonium chuckled to himself. "Do you really think today will be the day? I know Zachery has his doubts but Doctor Vinderheart is quite certain of himself."
Professor Lynn nodded even though John could not see it. "Yes, by my calculations. Our part in this project are complete."
John choked. Nearly spilling the compound onto the counter. "Our part? Professor Lynn, I have hardly done anything."
"Nonsense, John." Professor Lynn frowned. "You are to modest. Though I suppose that is a better trait to have than what Zachery has. Or rather, doesn't have. His wits are as rusted as his age wrinkled forehead." She gently guided her hand over John's and helped him pour. " John you have done most of the heavy work in this project. You have even corrected most of my mistaken calculations. In fact, I believe." She paused as the compound was completely emptied into the tube. She looked at him and smiled. "You are undoubtedly more compatent then you let on. If the pecking order was drawn by who is the smartest. I daresay you would be the head of this project."
The assistant blushed and turned to clean out the empty glass vial. "That is... very kind of you to say. You are too kind, Professor Lynn."
Lynn's smile faded as she gripped the test tube and placed it on her personal bunsen burner and watched as the blue flames danced around the clear glass. The burner had been a gift, courtesy of her younger brother. "You and your sciency stuff," he had said to her on her twentieth birthday. It was only five years ago and she had kept the burner in peak condition. She never used it, but this was a special occasion.
The black substance inside began to boil. Sharp bubbles erupted from the top in non sequential patterns.
John was beside her. "Last step!" He cheered.
Lynn narrowed her eyes. Her jaw twitched. Her brother used to say, "Don't speak to soon." Lynn always considered it superstitious nonsense. That was until her brother was robbed in broad daylight outside of the Townsville police department. It seemed that crime waves increased as the days went on in this wretched city. Townsville, she mused to herself. A city with a higher crime rate than Detroit. My city. Once Project Alpha was complete the streets would be cleansed of sin and it would once again be safe to take a midnight stroll. She missed those. She missed the cold night air and the light shining from a full moon. It was, dare she say, romantic.
Something changed. Professor Lynn's brown eyes shot wide open as the blue flame turned black. The chemical refused to boil further despite the now intense black fire beneath it. Lynn made to turn off the burner but John beat her to it.
As the flames died John raised an eyebrow. "Now that's odd."
Lynn gave John a curious look. "What's the matter?"
Lynn watched in horror as John moved his hand to touch the cooked vial. Lynn tried to pull his hand away before it could burn but froze when she felt the chill in the air. "Its as cold as ice." John muttered.
Lynn brushed the vial with her own fingers and jumped back. The glass wasn't just, cold as ice. It was ice. "H-how is this possible?" she asked herself while cupping her now cold fingers against her chest.
John paid her no attention. Right now the vial was the world that revolved around him. Lynn watched as he looked the glassware up and down before removing his hand. He grabbed a pair of forceps and gripped the vial. "Lead the way, Professor." He said with the biggest smile she had ever seen on the square headed man.
Lynn only nodded. She was still unable to get over how after cooking above a black fire, the vial was now cold as if it was left in the fridge overnight. She hadn't known what to expect when she finally perfected the formula. But she never expected this outcome. Could it be a sign? Could they finally have the future peace keeper of the world in their very hands. Only time would tell. That and the addition of chemical X.
Lynn held open the lab door where they found Doctor Vinderheart standing over a flask filled with chemical X. Beside him sat Professor Zachery. The two were in deep conversation when they John cleared his throat.
Vinderheart turned on his heel. "It's about time." Vinderheart chuckled as John handed over the Project. Vinderheart's grey eyes never left the sloshing liquid inside the glass. "It's cold. Very cold." He frowned. "Did apply heat to it?"
Lynn and John both gave each other a quick glance before nodding. "We did." John said briefly.
"Excellent." Vinderheart proclaimed. He turned to Zachery. "Would you do the honors, Professor?"
Zachery bowed his head. "Gladly." He moved to the flask of Chemical X and removed the cap. "You remind me of my ex wife." He mused. A stale smell spread across the room.
Lynn pinched her nose and gasped. "Does it always smell this bad?"
Zachery laughed. "I forget, Professor Lynn. Not only do you lack experience in bed. But you also haven't played with chemical X before. If you want I could give you some under the cover experience." Zachery laughed, ignoring the piercing glare that Lynn was sending him. "Rest assured. You are safe to breath it in. In fact, the smell is like a breathable energy drink. Nothing could make you feel more godly." He paused. "Well. Maybe somethings." He winked at Lynn.
Godly, she mocked him in her thoughts. You are the bane of "Godly". Her fingers were tight in her balled fist. Her nails were on the verge of spilling blood. It was always like this. He always had to say something around her. And he knew it made her furious.
"Zachery, enough with the chatter." Doctor Vinderheart barked with impatience. "I have been waiting six years for this moment. Don't you dare ruin it for me."
Zachery paled. "Yes sir." His voice was quiet, like a scared little mouse.
"And Professor Lynn, please refrain from speaking as well."
Lynn nodded her head once more. "Yes sir." She narrowed her eyes at Zachery again. His gaze shifted to the floor.
John and Lynn watched as Doctor Vinderheart poured the contents of the project into the flask of chemical X. Vinderheart stepped back and watched in awe as the chemicals danced about withing the glass container. Zachery stumbled backwards, wary of what product the group might have conjured. They waited. And waited.
Nothing. Nothing is happening.
Doctor Vinderheart must have reached the same conclusion and flew out the door in a rage. He could still hear his obscenities as he raged down the hallway.
Zachery let out a sigh of relief. Pathetic worm.
John broke the awkward silence that was left over. "I should probably be going now. Its getting late. And you know what its like after dark."
Lynn nodded, her eyes remaining on the failed Project. John Utonium walked past her and left the building. All that work. All that time and effort. Wasted, she winced.
Then it happened. Just as sudden as the bunsen burner began spewing black flames. The flask began to crack. Black bubbles rose from the glass and popped. Black splotches greased the wall. The flask began to vibrate and the cracks grew in spasms.
She heard Zachery mutter from across the room. "My God."
The liquid was gone. All that remained inside the glassware was a hellish inferno, blacker than night. Dark smoke clouded above. Before Lynn could say, "It worked." The flask exploded. Shards and fragments pierced her lab coat. She felt warmth trickling down her face. But that warmth was soon replaced by the cold raging winds. The cold fire roared and consumed everything in its path. Lynn tried to scream but the fire silenced her as it gorged itself on the room's contents.
The last thing Professor Jay Lynn every saw, was a young boy in the center of the hell storm. He was floating, cold flames licked at his hands and wavered around his jet black hair. His empty eyes found Lynn's and she found her scream.
