Chapter 1
Yang-Taiyang

Ruby crept into her sister's room. Too young to understand what was going on, all she knew was that her sister was in trouble.
Uncle Qrow and their dad Taiyang were talking downstairs with harsh but non-raised voices. They were angry about the adventure she and Yang had went on, that much was clear, and Yang was worried, all curled up and her tears being soaked up by the knees of her pyjama bottoms.

"Yang?" Ruby asked not even concerned if talking to her sister would land her in trouble too. Only four years old, all she cared about was checking on Yang. "are you scared of the grim?"
Yang sobbed into her shirt before wiping her tears away. She picked up her little sister and pulled her close.

"I thought we were gonna die" She whimpered.
Ruby clung to her sister as tight as she could.

"No, not die" She insisted. "You won't die too" She didn't fully understand death, but she knows from losing her mother that it means she won't see Yang again.
The pair cuddled and comforted each other after such a long scary night.
But it wasn't over.
Their dad walked in, bringing a stream of hall light in with him as the door opened.

"Ruby… off to bed with you. Come on honey"

"Is Yang Gonna Die?" She cried refusing to let go of Yang's arm.

"No, of course not. I just need to have a talk with her"
Held by her wrists, Ruby was swinging her legs trying to reach the ground before being handed to a half drunk Qrow.

"C'mon kiddo" Qrow said as she took the crying girl away, leaving Taiyang to sit with his eldest daughter.
Taiyang sat at the edge of the bed mostly in silence just staring blankly at the floor.
Yang's shivering was picked up by him through the bed, and eventually he turned to her.

"Do you have any idea how worried I was? If Qrow hadn't been near by, you could have died. Ruby too. Do you understand that Yang Do you understand what could have happened out there?"
Yang stared at him though wet eyes but was unable to find her voice, since this was the most hurt his voice had ever sounded.

"What were you doing out there?" Taiyang finally asked.
After a moment to warm up to speaking to him, Yang talked about the photo she found of team STRQ.

"I was looking for my mom" She said as tears rolled down her cheeks. "I thought I could find her"
Trembling at her father's touch, Yang soon found herself being pulled onto his lap and brought in for a hug.

"god… Yang… Summer and I raised you…" He cried holding her tightly. "She loved you with all her heart. You know that, don't you?"

"Yes dad" Yang rubbed her face on his shoulder to get the trickles away from her eyes. "I'm sorry dad"

"I know you are, love" He said as he lifted her up before setting her back down.
Yang was expecting this all night, but she wasn't prepared for it.
Her PJ bottoms slid down her legs instantly, followed soon by her pants and then her PJ top was raised up her back.
Being spanked was rare enough when it was Summer, but Taiyang was next to never.
When Summer spanked her daughters they'd have a cry and it would sting for ten minutes after word, when Taiyang did it, it was a whole other story. Ruby has only been spanked by her father once, this would be Yang's third.
Yang felt the first smack land fast on her backside. The sharp pain alone made her burst out in tears, but the lingering sting kept her crying while his hand raised up for another smack.

"AAAAH!" Yang screamed as her already sore bottom was being made worse, one slap at a time. With her hand gripping her father's jeans, Yang pulled as hard as she could reaching out hopping to find another hold on something to pull herself free from her father's wrath.
Taiyang didn't bother trying to stop her. Less active in recent years, but he's still a huntsman and it'll take far more cunning and strength than what a little girl can muster to escape him.

"AAH! Ah, Heh heeh! AHH!" Yang cried and cried as her bottom was made to feel like it was burning hotter than a mid-july sun. "Daddy Pleeasse!"
Taiyang halted his hand to listen to his daughter's whines. He spent a short moment letting her catch her breath to decide if he should stop or not.
No father enjoys hearing their children cry, let alone be the cause of it. But saying her actions could have got her and her sister killed is no exaggeration.
Yang needs to think about what she does. She needs to start acting like a big sister and put Ruby's safety as a priority. Taiyang pulled Yang closer before continuing the spanking, turning the deepening pink colour on Yang's behind to an angry red.
Little Yang was so hysterical and flailing wildly that she hit her father a few times but since Taiyang knew it wasn't intentional, he didn't punish her further for it.
After the spanking, Yang was pulled into her father's chest. Her hands clung to him tightly as she bawled into his shirt.

"there there there honey,
you're okay now" Taiyang hugged her warmly, patting the back of her head and giving her a soft kiss. "I love you Yang… You and Ruby are my entire world. I need you to know that"
Yang could hear him, but she was no closer to calming down.
Her bum hurt so much it was unbearable. AS much as she felt the need to reach back and rub, she felt physically unable to let go of her father.
Keeping an arm wrapped around her, Taiyang reached down to Yang's ankles and gently began to pull her pyjama bottoms up, giving the waist a wide birth as it went over her tender bottom.
After a moment of crying, Yang had settled into sobs and tears were starting to dry on her cheeks.
Her whimpering continued as her dad lifted her up to gently set down on the bed and pulled the covers over her.

"Tai" Uncle Qrow called from the door with a flask just at his lips. "The kiddo is down for the night, I'll be outside"
Taiyang took a deep breath before Qrow walked out. The glugging sounds going with him.

"Yang…" He sighed as he reached for her favourite cuddly toy to give her. "Your mother, her name was Raven"
Yang listened to him as she snugged into her doll.

"Why did she go away?"

"I can't tell you why she left because I don't understand it well myself. But I know she loved you, and I'm sure wherever she is, she thinks of you every day. And I'm certain she'd be worried sick if she knew you put yourself in harms way like you did"

"I'm sorry daddy" She whimpered again.

"Shhh, it's okay" He said pecking her on the head with another kiss. "You just get a goodnight sleep, dream about what we can do tomorrow"

"I'm not grounded?" She asked with more optimism.

"You've learned a hard lesson today, I'll let you off this once"
Yang leaped up from the bed and hugged her dad once more.

"Sleep honey… Have a goodnight" He whispered before putting her back down and leaving her door slightly open to let some hall light in just how she likes it to be.
Outside the house, he found Qrow still drinking away with his scythe primed and read.

"How many?"

"Dunno" Qrow groaned. "I warned you it'll attract grim"
Taiyang sighed as he spotted the glowing red eyes coming from the woods. He took his battle position with Qrow as he primed his weapon.

"It needed to be done, she needs to learn" He said.

"Yeah well, spanking children isn't a luxury country folk get to have"

"It's not a luxury. It pains me to do it"

"Pains her you mean" Qrow chuckled.
Taiyang rolled his eyes. A cheery light attitude will help prevent the grim from coming, but in the meantime, the seven Ursa coming towards the house needed to be dealt with.
