I do not own the book Matched or the Billy Joel song 'We Didn't Start the Fire'.

There. Story Time!

'We didn't start the fire

It's always been burning

Since the worlds been turning

We didn't start the fire

No we didn't light it

But we tried to fight it.'

How was seventeen year old Cassia Reyes supposed to know of such a song? Of course they wouldn't have kept such a song in the 100 songs. It spoke of controversy and remarkable things from far away, which no longer applied now. And there was no more controversy. But as it appeared in her dream, Cassia knew it did apply to her. A fire had been started in her, in her heart and soul. All because of a few forbidden poems, and one forbidden boy. And Cassia had tried to fight this fire. She'd tried and tried for the sake of Xander, for her family, for the society which she now so despised. And as it goes, Cassia and Ky didn't light this fire. They just fanned it, slowly, secretly, until it burst, and the Officials knew. The could see the rising smoke, and the flames. It was as if the whole Hill had been set on fire. But no one acknowledged it. Because no one saw this figurative fire. No one except those who dared to look.

Cassia's POV

I sighed in relief upon waking. My dream was surely not something we were supposed to dream of, and it must have been pure luck it wasn't my turn to wear the sleep tags. Luck…..oh how I've changed. Luck wasn't allowed in the Society. I had been reminded of this at my Match Banquet. But now it is all different.

I slip out of bed and put on my PlainClothes. Gray. So very gray. Gray is a dull color. I miss the green of my beautiful green dress. The green of the Maple trees, gone now. I miss not knowing of any other way of life than what I used to live. But I'd trade it in a heart beat for Ky.

It's raining this morning, so hiking is once again canceled. For me, this means extra stufy hours at Second school. Though I should be getting my final work position soon.

Sorting. Sorting was easy. All easy. Except for the time I had to sort Ky. I was smart to keep him in the middle. I heard the people in the top were going to other provinces to work. The people in the bottom got to keep their positions, and the people in the middle, like Ky, were promoted. But in the Society, most promotions are small. I just hope its enough to lengthen his life.

After eating my usual breakfast, I head out to catch my air train. Xander and Em must have taken the earlier train, and Ky is not to be seen. He also must have taken an earlier train for work. But I can tell he's been there when I climb on. On the air train window, so lightly I almost didn't catch it, someone drew a 'K' with their finger. I smile, taking a moment to treasure it before smudging my fingers over it.

This chapter was really short be cause I want to know if people actually read this before I really type a lot, and trust me, I do type A LOT.

So review! Or don't, and make me cry. XD
