When They Built the Wall
-the confessions of Darius Wolf
(from the Land of Elyon series - written by Patrick Carman)
Deep within the darkest dreams,
Far beyond all reason or thought,
From the depths of despair, comes a cry
To find what I have so long sought.
Never more, never more.
The voices haunt me so!
Never more, never more.
No! Why can't you leave me alone?
I've tried and sighed and cried, and now
It seems like it was so long ago
Since I gave that solemn vow
That I would never let you go.
I cannot give up, I cannot go on.
God save my tortured soul!
Maybe, someday, it will be gone,
And our family can once again be whole.
But for now, I must be content to call
From far away, like a forsaken ghost.
For when those people built the wall,
They tore me from what I loved the most.
