My Dearest Lily,
My main reason for writing this letter is to apologize. I haven't given you nearly the treatment you deserve these past seven years. I beg you to understand that my love for you caused me to act in a way not considerate of your feelings. I want you know I have come to realize what you always told me. I don't deserve you. I've genuinely accepted that now, and I plan to move on and find a more suitable woman, one not nearly as perfect as you. But know that, what ever happens, you will always be in my heart as my first and only love.
The other reason I wrote was to show you I've changed. I know this will mean very little to you, but I am not the self-centered child who used to torment you. I just couldn't bear the thought of you forever remembering me as the boy I once was. Though it may not be true, it puts my aching heart at ease to hope that you might understand.
As one last wish, I hope you would do something for me. Lily, you are an amazing, beautiful, perfect person. Never be with anyone who thinks any less. I think this is the key to your happiness. And if you are happy, then, and only then, I believe, will I be able to move on.
I love you. I will always love you. And even though, after tomorrow, I may never see you again, I will never, ever forget you. You have had an amazing impact on my life and are solely responsible for my becoming the man I have. I love you.
