As the seasons change remember how I used to be
Kakashi never completely got over the death of Rin. Joining the ANBU was the best thing for him, he knew it. He had witnessed the death of two friends, and was responsible for one. He pushed everyone away, he didn't want to be the cause for their deaths. Not again.

Kakashi Hatake was one of the best ANBU ever. His heart was cold and empty. He had no real will to live. His goal was to serve, and serve he did.

Kakashi continued to push his friends away, spending his free time training or avoiding others. He would stand at the memorial stone, staring at the names of his comrades. Now, Minato and Kushina, sensei and friend, joined the list of those who died serving their village. To him, there was no reason to want to live.

The third Hokage heard of Kakashi's depression, as Gai called it. He decided to give Kakashi a different job. He would assign a Gennin team to the young man.
