The hissing rain made Fai's missing eye ache.
It was a common syndrome, to feel pain or movement in a limb that was no longer there. Fai still tried to look at things with both eyes, and blinked in confusion, laughed at his own foolishness.
Kurogane hated it. It worried him that Fai wouldn't notice intruders until they were far too close. He stayed by his side for long stretches each day, sharpening his katana or staring outside as Fai dozed. He also hated the way Fai's skin reminded him of fresh snow.
Some days Fai just pretended to sleep.
Kurogane loved Fai, poor half-blind Fai, and he grudgingly conceded that Tomoyo had been right.
