Disclaimer: I own nothing.

This is just a little something that got stuck in my head and wouldn't leave til I got it out. It all started with the last sentence and I worked backwards. Anyways, I hope you enjoy and please read the note at the end.

I am General Iroh, descendant of Avatar Roku, grandson of Firelord Zuko and Royal Prince of the Fire nation. And by Agni I am tired.

I have been entrusted to oversee the rebuilding and recovery of Republic City. Really, I just make sure everyone is playing nice. I am twenty-three years old, almost always the youngest one in the room, and I feel like I have been babysitting children. Really, a small price to pay to ensure the hard won peace.

Republic City is safe in view from the porthole in my cabin. I should have been its savior, but instead, an ostracized seventeen year old girl defeated the demon Amon. I am still amazed by her strength of character and spirit of her soul. The world has been given a magnificent protector in Avatar Korra, of this, I am certain.

I have had the honor of sharing time with Korra. We spar, we strategize, and she asks for my input and advice. It amuses me that she asks this of me, when she saved my life before she knew my name. I oblige her to the best of my ability. Navigating the political atmosphere after the Equalist upheaval is tricky at best. What the Avatar lacks due to her naivete, she more than makes up for with tenacity. She shoulders the burden of Avatar with vigor and has developed a poise about her that was not there before Amon attacked.

I am lost in thought when I remember why I am tired. I am her senior yes, but I am not old. I have been up since before dawn and I am sure it is now past midnight. Meetings, sparring, political envoys, entertaining military dignities, anyone would be tired. I am tired. So when I hear a knock at my door, well past midnight I am not amused.

I am met with a bright smile and shining blue eyes. Where does she get this energy? She wants to talk about fire nation history and grandfather Zuko. Korra, savior of Republic City, sacred Avatar of the four elements and the world's proclaimed protector would like to chit chat about the past. I sigh as she slides in the door and offers to prepare tea in my quarters.

I refuse to think about the time. If the world can spare its Avatar for a few moments, then I can spare some sleep.

Please let me know if you like this. Its my first foray into LoK. This could actually be a three shot if anyone would care to read the other parts. Korra and Iroh grow closer and she steals more of his sleep. He doesn't really mind. Send me a review or comment if you are interested. Thanks for reading!
