No One Left To Love (A one-shot Johanna Mason fic)

"They can't hurt me. I'm not like the rest of you. There's no one left I love."

Johanna Mason told Katniss Everdeen. Most of the tributes think of Johanna as a strong-willed, uncanny, and driven woman. Someone who doesn't care who she hurts, as long as she gets what she wants—as long as she stays alive.

But everyone has stories. Dark pasts. Secrets.

As Johanna gazed at the woods, she remembered.

"Come back for me, okay?" Johanna told the man she loved, Yeal Flatt before he went with the people of the Capitol. He was picked as a tribute for the 71st Hunger Games. Yeal had long black hair tied in a ponytail, and always wore black clothes and Snakeskin boots.

Yeal took Johanna's hand. Her hair was still long, with waves here and there, her eyes still full of life...of hope. "Johanna," He said, "I'll come back. You know that I love you. You know I'll always come back."

"Promise me,"

He kissed her on the forehead, "I have to go," He said, and left.

Johanna waited. She watched the news constantly, tried to go on with her everyday life with the hope that Yeal would come back. And then the games ended.

And Yeal, though he made it to the end, he died. Because only one shall survive. And it wasn't him.

His body was brought back to his family—he was missing limbs, his face was broken, and though Johanna tried to forget everything about that year, deep down, she never did. And she never will.

The following year, Johanna Mason, by some twist of fate, was picked as tribute. She cut her hair short, learned the power of the axe more, learned how to be tougher...In the arena, she pretended to be a weakling...And then by the half of it, she started being vicious, killing her opponents with much power. She had to win. She needed to do this for Yeal. She made it all the way through, and what was good was that her final opponent, Nokie Mills, was the one who killed Yeal. She killed him, too. Brutally. With the axe. She didn't want to be merciful. She didn't want to be forgiving. She was doing this for Yeal.

And after the games, all she wanted was to come back to her family.

But she had nowhere to go home to anymore.

The Capitol killed her family because she didn't want to be under their power.

So Johanna was left alone.

And no one even bothered to ask what went on.

"Johanna," Katniss said.

Johanna looked at her, brought back to the present, "Listen," She said, "They'll try to ruin you. Don't let them." She went on, "And even if they already have, don't show them that they got to you. Know yourself, Katniss. They can't own you."

Katniss looked at her, and understood.

a/n: So. Since The Hunger Games movie is just 'round the corner, I decided to do this one-shot Johanna Mason fic (Well, she's my favorite)...And I might still be doing some HG one-shots this month so if you have requests, feel free to tell me. I'm not promising anything, but I'll try. Hope you liked this. :)
