Summary: Snape muses about the secrets behind his beauty.

I am Severus Snape. Professor Severus Snape, and I, am a pretty man. One might say it's not very masculine to refer to oneself as 'pretty' but I am not ashamed of my beauty. It has taken many years of fashion faux pas, hair- dye disasters and make-up mishaps to get where I am today. So, I stand before you, insolent muggle, and demand that you bask in my splendor.

There's not really any one thing in particular about me that leads to my aesthetic fortune. It's just the culmination of all that is me. But I suppose to fully explain it to your sort, I'm going to have to be a bit more specific. So, without further ado, allow me to make it more clear to you. And if its not too much of a burden, do try to pay attention. Taking notes would be in your best interest.

First of all, there is the hair. It takes a certain sort of person to carry off this look – one dignified, self-assured, intimidating. Fortunately, I am just that sort of man. Jet black, giving it a glossy sheen, yet still providing an air of the sinister – a necessary look for any real Slytherin such as myself. And of course, there is the subtle layering, adding a bit of lift to the hair, giving it a more tousled, devil may care look to it.

Some may say men should not wear make-up. But I say those men are fools. Nothing projects an air of evil better than a pasty pallor and black eyeliner. Use these wisely.

Then the clothes for it is these that make the man. Black, of course, to match the hair and make it clear that I am not to be taken lightly. It's also very slimming, which is important for a man of my age. The robe is most important – it's what gives me my power. When I walk into a room, my robes flowing around me like a dark curtain, all eyes are on me. I demand attention – and it is always received. Learn how to make your robe work for you. Practice in front of the mirror; figure out how to get the most swish with the least amount of effort.

Finally, there are the dramatic gestures. These can be used in conjuction with the robe for added effect. Why simply point to something when you give an emphatic wave of your hand, the sleeve of your robe streaming behind, I ask? Why indeed. Always make sure your every move is noticed. Never idly sit, always make sure to pose strikingly. You never know when one might be looking.

And so, pathetic muggle, I give you my secrets. Not that they will be of much use to the likes of you. Your kind is doomed to a lifetime of mediocrity. But perhaps my divulging of the mystery that surrounds my beauty shall one day be of some purpose. Until then I just leave you with the knowledge that I am Severus Snape, and I am pretty.
