"How do they know? How do they know already?" Kate whispered into her husband's shoulder, her shaky voice breaking the silence in the room.
"I don't know darling, I don't know" William replied back, one hand smoothing down her long chestnut hair, while the other was wrapped protectively around her shoulder. "Sometimes we just can't control what they find out. I'm sorry sweetie, I'm so sorry."
Kate lifted her head and shifted on the sofa to bring her teary eyes to his gaze. "But you said, you said no one would know, that we'd just announce when we were ready. But now it's out there for everyone to see. I can't deal with this. I HADN'T EVEN TOLD MY OWN MOTHER. YOU PROMISEDD WILL. YOU PROMISED."
Kate's voice rose to a shout, before she once again burst into tears on his shoulder. Will just stared down at her, he felt so helpless, he hadn't meant for this to happen, he truly hadn't.
"I'm sorry," her muffled voice muttered, "I know it's not your fault. I just don't know what to do."
William cupped her face in his hands, and bought it up, so there eyes were locked once again.
"Now listen to me. Everything is going to be OK. They've only printed it in some trashy magazines so most people won't believe it anyway. And we've released a statement that makes it sound as though everything's normal. Now stop crying, it's going to be alright. We'll get through this. Together."
Kate sniffed and gave him a watery smile. "What would I do without you?"
William grinned down at her. "I don't know, well, we wouldn't be in this situation for a start."
He glanced down to her stomach, where there entwined hands lay. He looked back up, meeting her adoring gaze.
"I still can't believe it Will, we're going to be parents!"
Will smiled, glad to see her cheering up. "So you're happy then?" His voice was more gentle, full of the love he had for his wife.
"Will, our lives are about to change forever. This will be the best thing that's ever happened to us. And nothing's going to ruin this. Especially not some stupid magazines." Kate's cheeks were flushed; her eyes sparkled with the intensity of her emotions.
William couldn't resist any longer, he leant down to meet her partially parted lips with his own…
Kate opened her eyes and groaned. The sound of the smoke alarm brutally awakened her from her deep sleep, the repetitive beeping went straight through her head. She kicked out with her feet to get William's attention, a process she went through most mornings, and landed promptly on the floor.
Eurgh, what the hell she thought. Sitting up, she glanced around her and realised she'd fdallen asleep on the sofa. Sighing, she sat up and rubbed her head.
"OH MY GOSH, are you alright?" William came rushing into the room, concern written all over his face.
"I'm fine , I just fell off the sofa. Wait, why are you covered in flour?" Catherine couldn't help but laugh at the large white pattern that had formed all down William's front.
"Never mind about me, are you sure you're fine? What about the baby? Do you need to get checked out?"
A slight look of frustration flickered across Kate's face. "Honestly Will, I fell about a foot and landed on a rug, I don't think either of us are at all hurt."
Will walked over and offered a hand, easily lifting up her light frame. "I just don't want anything to happen to you. You and our baby are the most important things in my life."
"That's great Will," Kate stated as she peered round his shoulder, "But I don't think burning the house down is the best way to go about it. There's still an awful lot of smoke coming from the kitchen."
"Oh shit." Will span round and ran into the kitchen. Kate laughed and followed him in.
"When are you going to learn that you might as well just let me cook, it would save us a lot of effort." Kate's eyes sparkled mischievously as she leant on the work surface, watching her husband beat at the smoke alarm with a tea towel.
