A Family Dinner
"Sit up straight", Abraxas hissed at his son.
Six-year-old Lucius jolted his shoulders back immediately, with a slightly fearful glance sideways at his father. This was the first time he had been allowed to dine with his parents and he was eager to make a good impression.
The food was brought out and Lucius began carefully cutting up his meat.
"This is delicious chicken," he said, trying to sound as grown up as possible.
"It's not chicken, dear," his mother corrected. "It's peacock."
The boy's eyes widened in horror, as he stared in shock at the peacocks preening on the lawn outside.
