Prompt: Friends

Prompt: Friends

Don and Danny had been friends since the moment they met. They just got each other in away that was so organic that it didn't need to include family histories or hours of conversation. One moment they didn't know each other and then the next moment they did.

That friendship, unlike any other he'd had in his entire life, was the one reason Donald Flack had stayed clear of Lindsay Monroe from the moment he saw her with Danny.

He knew his friend and Danny could go on and on about how he couldn't stand the new hick on the team, but Don knew what was really going on. Danny was pulling Lindsay's pigtails and hoping she'd get annoyed and pay attention to him.

So, Don ignored the fact that the very sight on Lindsay made his heart beat faster, or that her smile made his entire day brighter. He ignored the arousal that shot through him anytime she got close enough for him to brush against her skin, or anytime she single-handedly took down a suspect.

But he stayed away, he stayed clear, even when Danny screwed up, even when it would be so easy to swoop in.

He just wasn't that kind of guy, he wouldn't do that to his best friend, and he wouldn't do that to Lindsay.

He'd just have to settle for being friends. Even if he wanted so much more.
