Merlin attended to his bandaged before he went to bed. After a long days ride, by all rights he should be exhausted. He had battled a giant of a man and almost died doing it. But despite all of this, he couldn't get the grin off his face.
Gwen had forgiven him. They were back together, stronger than ever!
Just as Merlin was helping him pull his shirt over his head, there was a knock at the door.
"Come in," he said. He heard the door open and turned to see Elyan in his chambers.
"Yes, Sir Elyan?" he asked, hoping that something hadn't happened. At least not something bad. For god's sake they'd only just gotten back from the last fiasco!
"Sire, I was wondering if I could speak to you about something?" he said, fiddling with his cloak, which he had yet to take off from the parade earlier on that day.
"Of course, Elyan. You can come to me about anything," said Arthur, slightly worried about the young knight.
"Well, it's rather sensitive," said Elyan.
"You have my permission to speak your mind Elyan," said Arthur.
"Well it's about Gwen, my Lord," said Elyan.
Gwen? "What about her?" asked Arthur, walking forward a couple of paces, as though to rush to Gwen's side.
"Well, it's just that I heard what happened…between you and her…"
Merlin had paused in whatever infernal task he had been completing in the back of the room and was listening to their conversation. Arthur had the sudden suspicion that whatever was about to be said was not entirely of Elyan's choosing.
"And I just wanted to say," continued Elyan, his voice getting louder as his confidence grew, "that if you ever hurt my sister like that again, King or not, I will hurt you."
Arthur's eyebrows were well and truly past his hairline now, as Elyan turned and walked out of the room. Arthur had not expected that at all.
Merlin abandoned whatever task he had stopped doing and walked to Arthur's side.
"Well," he said, that mischievous grin residing on his face. Arthur suddenly had no doubt that Merlin had had a part in Elyan's actions. "He certainly put you in your place."
Arthur turned to Merlin and opened his mouth to speak, but Merlin was walking past him, towards the door.
"Oh, and what he meant to say is that we will hurt you," Merlin said, reaching the door and pulling it open.
"But…but I'm the King!"
"And I'm you're manservant," said Merlin. "You have no idea what I could do to you."
And he left the room, leaving a very shocked Arthur in his wake.
