Tears slid down her face, which was painted over in agony.
I killed him.
That's what Celes thought. Her granddad, her only family…She had killed him. It was true that he wasn't really her grandfather- but to take care of her for an entire year while she slipped further into her own thoughtless dreaming…He had to have cared for her. Had he loved the young soldier?
The waves around her splashed peacefully, as if mocking her and everything she had once done.
How pathetic. You can kill wave after wave of soldiers and monsters, even an innocent old man, but you can't even kill yourself. Disgusting.
An animalistic cry tore through her throat and she slammed her open palms against the raft, her tears only intensifying.
"What do I do?!" She shouted to the water, which only licked the sides of the raft Cid had built innocently.
Her head turned to the sky and her fingers tore at her beautiful blonde locks. "What do I do, granddad?! What do I do?! I…I…" She broke down finally; her eyes closed and her words only choked her as she sobbed.
A flash of blue clothing ran through her mind. Locke. The man she wanted to love, the man that she wanted to love her- the man that didn't trust her.
Untangling her fingers, Celes pulled the envelope containing Cid's letter out of her bustier. Rereading it brought a smile to her face, and she looked out towards the glowing red sun.
"Locke, I'll find you…And we'll defeat Kefka." She stood on the raft, which shifted against her weight.
Locke is dead. You're the only one left. The water said to her.
Celes scanned the letter one more time. It was the one thing that gave her hope- Cid's apology. "It's okay, granddad…It's okay." She said, and tossed the letter into the ocean.
She would be reaching land shortly.
