"Spike!" A young girl of about thirteen ran through a large library while shouting to her green and purple dog.

Spike walked up to his owner, who threw a book at him.

"Please put that away! Oh my gosh, Principal Celestia is going to be so mad I'm late…"

The dog shot the girl a dirty look.

"Fine, she's never mad. But it doesn't hurt to be early!"

Spike rolled his eyes, but his owner took little notice.

If Spike could talk, he would object to his owner's 'it doesn't hurt to be early' philosophy being a good one. After all, she's normally overly stressed, loses a good hour or two of sleep, and constantly wakes him up to be early.

"Spike, grab my bag please! Celestia says she needs to see me soon!"

-line break-

"Principal Celestia!"

A beautiful woman, perhaps around her late twenties at most, looked up from her paper work to see her top student, Twilight Sparkle.

"Slow down, Twilight. I'm not going anywhere," the principal giggled slightly, showing a bright and happy smile.

"You said you wanted to see me? What happened? Did I fail one of my exams? Did Spike get somewhere? Was I late to-"

"You're studies are fine and neither you nor Spike are in trouble. I just wanted to talk to you," Celestia smiled brightly, gesturing for Twilight to sit down, to which her student complied.

"What happened?" Her student asked eagerly.

"You're at the top of your class, as usual, you take place in many extracurricular activities, but I do worry about one thing," Celestia said, frowning bit in her eyes.

"What?" Twilight responded in panic.

"You signed up to stay in school for the summer."

"Well, yeah, how else am I supposed to study?"

Celestia sighed. "Twilight, you're a wonderful student, but you've been training under me for five years-"

"-and eight months, twelve days and three hours-"

"-and I haven't seen you make any friends."

Twilight shifted in her seat uncomfortably. "I have friends! Like Spike!"

"I mean friend your age. About six months into your first year here, you already took one-on-one training with your teachers and eventually just yourself and me occasionally helping you." Celestia reached into her desk and handed Twilight a brochure. "I've talked to your parents. You have a distant relative living in a small town in Oregon, and since you're far ahead in your studies, we've decided to send you there for the summer."

Twilight could barely register what her principal was saying.

"Wait, you're forcing me to leave?"

"I care about you and your parents care about you too. We want you to take a break. Your extremely far ahead in your studies, I could ask you keep you there for a year or maybe two, but it'll only be three months."

"But-" Twilight began to argue, but Celestia's phone rang, so she picked it up and waved Twilight goodbye.

Twilight grumbled when she exited, ready for the least productive and most boring summer of her life.

How wrong she was.
