Symphony
A child dressed in nothing but a
black dress and a sweater fell to her knees in front of a tombstone. Tears
flowed from her eyes, matching the gray rain falling from the sky. Her
blonde pigtails loose and tanglely. She sniffed and tried to brush the
loose strands from her faded blue eyes.
The soft wet grass hit her knees.
Hazy mist surrounded her as she read the engraved inscriptions. "Te...noh
Riuchi...and Ten..oh I..taru." She sniffled a little and wiped the tears
from her eyes. "Died Oc..tober 9th." Her head fell to her small hands.
"Rest in Peace."
A small child stepped out from behind
a gravestone. "Why are you crying?"
The girl didn't bother to look up.
She just lied there in the grass, head in hands, weeping to herself.
The child asked again. "Why are you
crying?"
The girl didn't move. "Can't you
see?" She murmured.
The child merely shrugged and walked
slowly over to the girl, gently placing her hand on her shoulder. "You're
lonely."
The girl stopped crying and lifted
her head from her moist hands. She stared at the child in awe. She was
beautiful. Long aqua hair rolled down her back as if it was waves in the
sea, even wet, it seemed to shine. Bright green eyes lit up her pale face.
She worn nothing but a plain white dress and a warm smile.
"Are you...an angel?" The girl stuttered
to ask.
The child shook her head. "I'm Michiru."
"Mic...hiru." The name was sweet
to her tongue. "Michiru."
Michiru nodded and lent her hand.
"Your name?"
The girl wiped her eyes and grabbed
the hand, Michiru slowly lifted her up. "Haruka."
"Haruka." The name rolled off of
Michiru's lips. "That's a pretty name."
Haruka just stood there, trying to
constrain her tears.
Michiru took Haruka's hand. It felt
wet and cold, lonely and desperate. "You're...so sad."
Haruka nodded and whispered. "My
parents..."
She squeezed Haruka's hand gently.
"You're lonely."
Haruka pulled her hand away from
Michiru and brought it to her chest. "Of course I'm lonely!" She yelled
with fresh tears streaming down her face. "They were all I had...and now...now
they're gone! Gone..." Her head fell to her hands once more.
Michiru sighed and looked at the
crying girl. She stepped closer to her. "That's not true."
Haruka sniffed. "Of course it's true!
I have no one left."
Michiru shook her head. "No, you
do have someone left." She grabbed Haruka's hand and pulled it from her
chest, causing Haruka's head to raise up. "You have me." She said as she
held on to Haruka's hand. Haruka's eyes sparked in shock.
"But but..."
"No buts." Michiru smiled. "You have
me and you'll always have me." She moved closer to Haruka and kissed her
on the cheek.
Haruka blushed in response.
Michiru smiled and pulled back, freeing
Haruka's hand. "I must go now...but we'll meet again and be together forever."
"But..." Haruka held her hands close
to her chest.
"Forever." Michiru smiled and disappeared
into the sea of misty rain and gravestones.
