The challenge was staying awake during the long hyperspace jumps. The convoy neared the halfway point, and Julda knew his boredom wouldn't subside anytime soon. Boredom mixed with the hyperdrive engine's steady hum typically resulted in his personal sleepy cocktail. And he never passed up a cocktail.
During any other run he'd find ways to entertain himself. But Julda promised himself he'd stay focused - he wanted to avoid screwing up this time. That Imperial commander had it out for him, and wanted nothing more than to impound Julda's freighter. He needed to make a living though, and his drinking habit was expensive. Corellian rum ain't cheap, he thought, and a guy's gotta maintain his lifestyle.
He leaned forward and took another look at the readouts. He frowned as he noticed a soft red light on the left panel. The collision warning? We're in a deep space. Ain't nothing near here for parsecs. Julda shifted in his seat to get a better look at the control panel. But that's all he saw. The ship immediately began shuddering as it lurched out of hyperspace, and Julda's mind didn't even have time to register he'd never taste Corellian run again before light enveloped the cockpit and the vessel disappeared from existence.
