Mornings at number 12 are always peaceful and quiet. I woke up when I wanted to and made my way down the stairs. I entered the kitchen and, as always, found Remus drinking a cup of tea and reading the Daily Prophet. He looked up and smiled at me.
"Good Morning Harry. Slept well?" I nodded and sat down to contemplate breakfast. He went back to reading.
The mornings here were different then at the Burrow, where there are children running everywhere and noise and cheer and entirely too much caffeine. You can always find Mrs. Weasley bustling around the kitchen cooking for everyone, sometimes for hours as all of the occupants of the huge house file in between six and noon. I find it too busy and loud. I like to make my own breakfast; it makes me feel better. I love the Weasleys however so I put up with their mornings for their other redeeming factors.
"Will Sirius be down soon?" I asked Remus.
"Yeah, I'm sure he will. He wanted to take a shower before coming down. Are you making breakfast?" I nodded, getting up to tie on my apron.
"Do you want anything special?" He shook his head.
"Your godfather will probably want something terribly complicated but I'm fine with whatever you want to make."
"Oh, you wound me Moony." In the doorway was Sirius with damp hair. He came in, ruffled his godson's hair and bent to kiss Remus. "It's not my fault I have expensive tastes. Today I want pancakes. Snap to Harry." I rolled my eyes and set to making pancakes.
"You're worse then the Dursley's Sirius, ordering me about like a slave." He laughed.
"You like it."
It was like the family I had never had as I made breakfast for the two men who I had come to see as my fathers. I brewed a fresh cup of coffee for Sirius and left the kettle on the stove to keep warm.
The pancakes were almost ready when I heard the door open and saw Draco stumble into the room. Sirius and Remus smiled at him and he offered a small smile back. He came up behind me and wrapped his arms around me.
"Is that pancakes?" He whispered sleepily. I nodded and flipped the last of them onto a plate. I maneuvered Draco back over to the table and sat him down. I then put the pancakes and some plates on the table.
"Breakfast is served." I said and went to make Draco some coffee. I set the coffee down next to him and wrapped my arms around his middle. "You seem tired. Did you sleep well?" Nodding he reached for his coffee.
"Yeah, it's just taking longer to wake up today. How was your sleep?" He addressed the other two at the table.
"I don't know about sleeping, but my night was good." Sirius waggled his eyebrows and we rolled our eyes while Remus playfully thwacked him.
"I slept fine Draco. And my morning is great now that Harry made pancakes. Compliments to the chef." I acknowledged the comment by tilting my head toward him. I was stilled cuddled up against Draco and had no intention of moving.
"Harry, you have to have breakfast. You slaved over it." I snorted but indulged him by disentangling myself from him and reaching for the breakfast.
Just like a real family we sat at the table together and engaged in polite conversation about our plans for the day. Things were just as they should be and I dug into my breakfast with a smile.
