Hallelujah

I've heard there was a secret chord

Harry Potter sat by a table, contemplating

That David played and it pleased the lord

He was The-Boy-Who-Lived

But you don't really care for music do you?

Voldemort wasn't bothered by the title

It goes like this, the fourth the fifth

During his years at Hogwarts he had beaten the monster

The minor fall, the major lift

But Cedric had died and the dark lord had risen

The baffled king composing hallelujah

He fought against Voldemort's twisted vision

Hallelujah

He looked back

Hallelujah

He had lost so much

Hallelujah

And lived so little

Hallelujah

Harry reached for the bottle of fire whiskey

Your faith was strong but you needed proof

He was for the light, but was it worth it?

You saw her bathing on the roof

He thought of his first sight of Hogwarts

Her beauty in the moonlight overthrew you

It practically glowed in the night, he had come home.

She tied you to a kitchen chair

Yet every summer he returned to the Dursleys.

She broke your throne, she cut your hair

They hated him and made scathing comments

And from your lips she drew the hallelujah

And then he would return home, to Hogwarts

Hallelujah

And yet, it was hard.

Hallelujah

Each year harder

Hallelujah

Each more painful

Hallelujah

But it was home.

Maybe I've been here before

He had vague memories of his parents.

I know this room, I've walked this floor

A home he wished he could remember

I used to live alone before I knew you

He was alone until he went to Hogwarts

I've seen your flag on the marble arch

That crest engraved in stone had meaning for him.

Love is not a victory march

But a castle couldn't love him

It's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah

It could welcome him but never love him

Hallelujah

He wondered privately,

Hallelujah

What if?

Hallelujah

What if they hadn't died?

Hallelujah

What if he could have had them too?

There was a time you let me know

His mentor was gone now too

What's real and going on below

Dumbledore had taught him many things

But now you never show it to me do you

But he was gone now too.

And remember when I moved in you

He had wondered through the halls then,

The holy dark was moving too

But the school was empty without him

And every breath we drew was hallelujah

He'd promised he'd fight, and he would

Hallelujah

Could he do it?

Hallelujah

Without Dumbledore?

Hallelujah

Alone again?

Hallelujah

He would try.

Maybe there's a god above

Dumbledore wasn't the only one.

And all I ever learned from love

Sirius, his beloved godfather

Was to shoot at someone who out drew you

He remembered their meeting

It's not a cry you can hear at night

But he was gone too, unable to help him

It's not somebody who's seen the light

Was it worth fighting to live?

It's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah

Would it be so bad to let Voldemort win?

Hallelujah

He tipped back the bottle

Hallelujah

And he cried

Hallelujah

He shed a tear for his parents

Hallelujah

A tear for his childhood

Hallelujah

A tear for Cedric

Hallelujah

A tear for Sirius

Hallelujah

A tear for Dumbledore

Hallelujah

And a tear for those to follow.
