Sometimes, Anzu was a little scary. It wasn't that I would look at her and be scared – normally she was really cute, like how she had smiled when she invited me out, saying, "You need to get out of your house once in a while." That was cute. What wasn't cute was when Anzu got mad; I'd seen that more than enough times not to take for granted that any day with her was going to be a little scary.
I saw her coming towards me, and at first, she just seemed really cute – all bundled up against the snow, snowflakes in her hair – but then I noticed the stick she had hoisted over one shoulder, and the frown across her face. It looked like one of those days; I wasn't quite sure what that meant, but Jounouchi always said it when she looked like that. I swallowed and called out, "Hi!"
At least she kind of smiled when she sat down next to me. She didn't talk right away, sort of glaring off into nothing, so I tried again: "Something wrong?"
"Boys are dumb," she said, turning to look at me; she looked really serious. "No offense, Mokuba, but they are. They were running around with this." She shrugged her shoulder, making the stick jingle. A closer inspection revealed that there were bells and a bit of mistletoe attached to the end. "And they were trying to trick girls into kissing them."
It took me a good ten seconds to keep myself from laughing; once I had that down, I asked, "Did they get you?"
She shook her head; the snow that had settled on her hair went flying. "They tried, but I took the stick and started hitting them with it." Despite the initial fear of the statement – after all, I was a boy! – I had to laugh; it was a pretty funny thing to imagine. "Ah, never mind," she said, looking down at me. Just like normal, she was all smiles. "I'm glad we chose today to come here," she said, looking up. "When I saw that it was snowing this morning, I was so excited; I just knew it'd be a great day. It's so beautiful when it snows." Her eyelashes fluttered, and I noticed that there were little snowflakes clinging to them.
"Yeah." I nodded, looking up with her. "It is."
We passed a few minutes in silence, but it was nice. Or at least I thought it was; Anzu piped up, "And I'm sorry I was late!" There was an almost nervous ramble to her words; her voice was just a little off, a little faster than usual. "I got a little caught up with this mistletoe business, and then I wasn't sure what to do with the stick itself. I couldn't just leave it there."
I could just imagine those boys chasing girls again, despite Anzu's threats... And then I had an idea – an evil, horrible, entirely-to-tempting idea to pass up. "It's okay," I told her, shifting to sit up on my knees. I knew damn well what I was planning probably wasn't the safest course of action, but it sounded like fun in my head. "Maybe you were meant to bring it here."
"Oh?" She looked over at me. "And why would I need it?"
"Maybe there'll be some boys here to beat up," I teased, elbowing her in the ribs. "Who knows – you might see a girl here who needs a knight in shining armor."
She giggled, shoving back a little in retaliation. "Well, I don't see any boys here that seem THAT stupid."
I nodded. "Well..." I leaned up, pulling the mistletoe from the stick; it popped off easily. Before Anzu could say anything, I held it over her, kissing her cheek quickly.
Then? Well, she still had that stick slung over her shoulder... So then, I ran like hell.

gift!ficlet for hush. ::heart:: So things brings... what, only 16 left? XD Ahem, anyway, this pairing caught me by surprise – I blame nenya85. XD It not was I was initially "intending" to write – that is, I was sort of going for an ambiguous sort of feel – but it happened. Hopefully it's, um, okay! ;;;
