disclaimer: guess what? I don't own Fruits Basket!! I know. It's such a surprise, isn't it? But it's true. Furuba is not mine.
Hatori Sohma was walking home from Shigure's house. It had been fun, but it had depressed him a bit too. Now that the curse was broken everyone could be together. Everyone except for him. Tohru had been too late for him, not that Hatori wasn't grateful toward her.
About an hour before Hatori had left the part it had started snowing. Snow always made Hatori happy and sad at the same time. He was happy because it reminded him of Kana, but sad because what they had could never happen to Hatori again. It just couldn't. At least, he didn't see how it could.
Now, walking home it was still snowing. There was already about four inches on the ground, and the snow woke Hatori up as it fell on his face. He smiled a bit. What becomes of snow? He sighed.
As he neared the end of the cleared path though the whitening woods, Hatori decided to try not to think about Kana. It was a nice day. He liked snow. The party had been fun. He had a new house and office! His life was good.
He sounded like Tohru.
But his new place was nice. Although he was loyal to his family, he just needed to get away. Living with all of them was strange… it made it seem like they were the only people in the world. So with the curse broken Hatori had moved off the Sohma estate. His new office, and home, was on a hill over looking a small town. He had found out that they didn't have a doctor in town, and had to walk to the city every time they got sick. So he figured he'd get good business there, plus it wasn't very far from Shigure's house.
Hatori rounded the corner and saw someone… a woman… in his yard. He widened his eyes.
The woman was smiling, twirling around in the snow. Why was she at his house? Her hair was the darkest of browns and it curled softly around her shoulders. Hatori drew back a little into the woods when she fell to the ground and proceeded to make a snow angel. Then she suddenly stopped. She lay there for a moment, and then slowly got up. She stood, looking down at her angel as if noticing,
"Who ever lives here is going to think I'm nuts!"
Hatori came out of the woods and walked towards the woman, and his house. She heard the crunching of the snow as he approached and turned around.
"Oh hello! Are you the doctor? I just moved here, so I wanted to introduce myself… you weren't home, and were I come from we don't get snow very often, so I was excited and yeah." She lowered her eyes, looking back at the angel.
Hatori raised an eyebrow but smiled. He liked this girl.
"Yes, I'm Hatori Sohma."
"You are the doctor, right?"
"Mmmhmm..." The woman had finally looked at him straight on and he noticed her eyes were a beautiful blue. Hatori noticed he was staring and stopped.
" I'm Mishi! Mishi Hanumana. Nice to meet you." Mishi stuck out her hand. Hatori took it, and slowly shook it.
"Um, it's pretty cold out… you want to come in for some coffee?" seeing the face she made he added "Or other warm beverage?" Mishi laughed.
"Other warm beverage? Like what?"
"Hot chocolate… or tea... I don't know."
"I could always drink some boiling water!" Mishi said, energetically.
Hatori smiled, a little more than usual.
"Sorry. But, please, you will come in?"
"Of course, thank you."
Hatori smiled as he led Mishi inside.
