Cheaters
Aang stared at Zuko over the top of Toph's head, wishing he could say something that would make all the awkwardness go away. After all, it wasn't everyday that a guy slept with his best friends.
Plural.
Opening his mouth to say something, Aang almost choked on air (ironic right? An Airbender choking on air…ha!) when Toph shifted and pulled her leg up, the skin of her knee dragging across his still-moist manhood and sending a jolt of pleasure through his body. Needless to say, he snapped his teeth together and clenched his jaw, turning his head doggedly away from his companions, resolutely staring out of Toph's open balcony.
"What are we going to do?" Zuko asks after a long, long moment of silence.
Aang exhaled silently. "Dunno," he replies. He remembered Katara waiting for him at the South Pole, relying on his promise to return to her soon. He remembered Zuko's own fiancée, Lady Mai, who discovered two days ago that she was barren. Because of this, Mai wasn't fit to become Zuko's wife—to become Fire Lady—in the Fire Nation's eyes.
Zuko didn't care about her condition, but he was torn between love and obligation, and while he loved Mai, his obligation to his people always came first. And one of those obligations included marrying someone capable of bearing a child—an heir to the Fire Nation throne.
This was the reason why Aang had quickly flown to the Fire Nation and invited Zuko along for a brief visit to Toph, who'd spent the last few months in Omashu as Bumi's own adopted heir. He'd hoped that Zuko would get the hint—that he'd get the idea of adopting an heir on his own, leaving him open to marrying Mai and keeping the happiness he'd found in the stoic noblewoman.
...in retrospect, Aang probably shouldn't have done that.
For many reasons, now that they've already happened.
"'Dunno?'" Zuko echoes. "You pick now of all times to brood and angst?"
"You had your turn back in the Fire Nation," Aang mutters as Toph turned her head into his neck, making goose bumps break across his flesh as her breath brushed softly over his skin. He shuddered, remembering what had happened right before Toph drifted off to sleep. "I think I just earned the right to brood and angst as much as I want."
"Why, because you cheated on your girlfriend?" Zuko hisses. "Big whoop. Get in line."
Aang blinked, realizing that Zuko had (technically) cheated on his girlfriend first. That made him feel a little (teeny tiny) bit better. "Right," he mutters, not in the mood to fight with the Fire Lord.
"Both of you shut up," Toph grouses, her voice husky with the little sleep she'd gotten, "or I'll bury you in my floor and sleep on top of your graves."
"Sorry," Aang apologizes at once.
Author's Note
No idea where this one came from, but I was amused when I finished writing it.
Hope you liked it! Tell me what you think? My muse is staying over for a bit and I've got a few more Zaaph (Zuko-Aang-Toph, if you didn't get it) ficcies hanging around here.
